kop205 Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Not sure what the purpose was of the 'Do you think your club has benefitted or suffered?' question. Basically setting it up to undermine negative feedback from anyone who reckons their club have been hard done by. I mean, I reckon we've been shafted by it way more than we've been gifted anything but that isn't really the point - most of the time, last minute derby winners aside, you can still find a way to win anyway. The point I gave up on it didn't even involve us, it was that Bamford one where he was given offside for pointing where he wanted the ball played. It was mind blowing. It was never offside. It was never being given as offside live. I doubt anyone would even have contemplated arguing it was offside if it had been scored against them. Before it came in, I was very much for it on the basis that getting the correct decision was paramount and if this meant having to wait whilst stuff was checked and even having to temper celebrations then sound. Even if you suppose that is better - and being less po-faced about it I'm not sure it is - it isn't what we've got anyway cos the decisions are more infuriating than ever. I mean, it would have been bad enough for the Henderson goal to have been flagged offside live but for them to disallow on a VAR overrule is just astonishing. Yeah, maybe part of it is to do with weird quirks in the laws of the game and this has just shone a light onto them but the end result is still that it is unmitigated s***e and it needs canning completely for offsides and at the very least significantly amending in terms of the protocols of its use for other stuff. It is the f***ing pits. 1
Molby Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Why can’t we just modify the offside rule so that the decisions are based solely on where the feet are and the rest of the body is irrelevant ? then reviews can be almost instant and half the problem is solved 2
kop205 Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 You'd still have decisions based on blurry images with weird, wobbly lines drawn at a moment arbitrarily chosen by the person who happens to be the one pausing the f***ing Betamax tape that day. It is irredeemably s***e as things stand.

Position of feet or "clear space" to modify offside law. VAR is a good innovation ruined by incompetence, useless English officials and an over zealous need to justify itself. Yard of ale?

Use high frame rate cameras or if you need to draw a line to make a decision, give the attacker the benefit of the doubt 1
Gerry Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Position of feet would have still allowed that Leicester goal against us, and I think that should be offside. Allegedly they do use high speed cameras don't they? Still seems s*** anyway.
D.Boon Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 David Attenborough has better technology at his disposal to watch a couple of Kittiwakes f***ing. 3

I guess you’re saying that like capitalism, we don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water although it might happen anyway, understandably and powered by fury so yeah, bien sur 2 hours ago, Gethin said: I keep making the point - but there's potentially a net 30-40cm change in positions per frame if the defender is pushing out and the attacker is going forward. Jarg Armani Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 In many ways that disallowed winner at goodison has ruined my life

Would be hugely expensive to implement as you'd need loads of them in each ground for very minimal benefit. They're trying to solve everything with technology and it's just not worth spending the money to do that. Unfortunately the alternative is people with a vested interest admitting that the system has flaws
downunder Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 In Tennis if any part of the ball touches the line, it's in. Why not have any part of the body in line, its on side?
