New York Red Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 An interesting signing. He needs a good orthodontist.
kop205 Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Be surprised if he plays a meaningful game for us.
RBM Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 This is one of the strangest signings I can remember
Swipe Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Strikes me that he’ll just replace Williams/Phillips as first sub off the bench. Be brilliant if he got a chance and was properly good but it’s maybe more likely he doesn’t start a game.
Begbie Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 He's just a Caulkner style signing so we've got an extra body in if we get more injuries isn't he? Think the Matip injury led to a bit of panic, we weren't sure we were getting another CB in till late on deadline day Not on the bench yesterday, not expecting much tbh

Leo No.8 Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Nat Williams has been playing meaningful games for us. So why wouldn’t Davies? 1

Expand Not sure Klopp is willing to take that risk. He should start 2 center backs and put his midfield stars back in their right spots, but I don't he has the confidence/bottle to do it. Fabinho's last few games have shown he is creaking a little at the back, just a little, but enough to suggest he needs to be back in his usual spot. Henderson has been great at the back, but his drive, passion, commitment and ability is sorely missed in midfield. Edited February 8, 2021 by Nebraska Red

épieur Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 He's obviously been bought as 4th choice. I expect he'll play as much as your regular "making up the numbers" 4th choice center back from next season onwards and will be funneled asap into the first team as soon as he's been trained in our defensive patterns and such. Maybe not starting every game, but he'll start plenty this season. This midfield-in-defence abomination must end, for the sake of both our midfield and defence.
Flasher Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I maintain that he will be a better defender than Henderson. Question is, will he be a better defender than Fabinho? I'm willing to bet he is. He's played there all his life and was rated as one of the best, if not the best CB in the championship last season. I'm sure he's better than Phillips and Williams as a result. Once both him and Kabak are up to speed they should play in my eyes. I'm a broken record on this point, but I want midfielders in midfield and defenders in defence asap
Swipe Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I think it’s worth the risk. The midfield has been decimated this season.
RBM Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Supposed to be a good passer from the back isn’t he? Isn’t that one of the big problems with Van Dijk missing

Expand He's got three years left on his contract here though which doesn't put us in a great position in terms of cutting him lose. Castoffs were tough to get rid off last summer hence why Origi and Shaqiri are still here and Wilson was only loaned out and I can't see why it's different this summer. You won't get many people paying Joel Matip's wage on a gamble, so to get rid of him we'd either have to pay him to go or he'd have to take a heavy paycut. Can't see how he isn't here next season.
Begbie Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Agree in that I can't see anyone taking such a financial risk on Matip considering his contract. He'll be with us next season So assuming the other two return from injury and we bring someone in it's hard to see when Davies will play
