the deeper the mancs x 2 and Chelsea go in their respective tournaments (without winning, obvs) has got to help us here, hasn't it?

We're done for the season in 2 days time. Everyone can go away, relax, enjoy the break, refresh, come back & do a decent pre-season and be chomping at the bit.

Anyone playing a European final has 3 weeks before we're off again.

Mid-season break?

in February apparently

Chelsea are 3-0 down so I'll be amazed if they do anything other than not make it to Portugal.

s'funny ol' game Phil

that fixture is still 2 weeks away - Bayern will do well to be 'on it' after such a break

Be interesting to see what gives.

Last years scheduled programme was 39 weekends from the start to finish of the PL. There were only 6 available midweek dates that didn't have Internationals, European games, Carabao Cup or FA Cup games on them - plus the one week off in February for the winter break

This one is 37 weekends - with 4 scheduled international breaks in the original schedule (same as this season was meant to have - one in March never got played)

My guess is that FA Cup will go to "no replay", they'll cancel the winter break and possibly play all 8 of the CL Round of 16 games on the same dates rather than have 4 midweeks allocated to play those in two sets. Going to be pretty much 2 games a week all season.

Also there's an upside of being out of Europe as City, Chelsea and United potentially will have much shorter off-seasons that us

Oh aye, but them losing 3-0 at home would get them extra time.

Some early tough aways would be handy whilst grounds are still empty.

Yeah the likes of Palace, Watford, Leeds would be much easier.

City, United, Chelsea better surely?

I think the difference the crowd makes at the likes of Palace and Watford turns them from difficult game to easy ish win. No crowd at City or Chelsea doesn't make nearly as much difference.

League Cup surely either youngsters only or cancelled for European clubs?

If they didn't make any accommodation for us this year with our schedule then I think the EFL will turn round and say "we're already no replay, we're not changing anything until the FA do the same with the FA Cup". And then all the PL clubs will just play the kids in it.

Lose in Kiev one year, win in Madrid the next.

Win 97 points but come 2nd last year, smash the league this.

Lose the Charity Shield on pens this season, come on boys... it's time.

The league is great, every win is so important. 38 games of anticipation. Every mistake has a consequence. The Champions League group stage has a different feel to it. A single defeat isnt fatal. 2nd legs can be almost dead rubbers. But the semi final and final have ceilings that tend to be higher than the league. Unless you win the league in the last game, the team at the top might have 1-2-3 chances to win it, but the CL you only have one.

But each and every 3 points in the league matter - it can make or break a weekend's mood. Late winners against Leicester, Villa, Palace, Wolves were all great.

When realistically are we likely to have crowds at matches?

October 1st is what the Govt have said
