Stevie H Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 Don't f***ing do that. Assumed it was a bloody RIP.
antona Posted April 7, 2020 Author Posted April 7, 2020 He died 9 years ago from liver ailment obviously related to his drinking habit. But what a footballer and what a guy!
oojason Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 (edited) A few videos of the great man... A little more information on him, his life - on and off the pitch, him not turning pro until 25 as he was training for his medical license to become a doctor, Democracia Corinthiana of course, and his political activism. Plus a few other videos too... https://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=279970.msg15732805#msg15732805 Edited June 1, 2024 by oojason 4

Nebraska Red Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Fabulous footballer in a fabulous football team. Imagine what he'd be like playing now.
Billy Talbot Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 this biography is really good https://www.wob.com/en-gb/books/andrew-downie/doctor-socrates/9781471154089?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADZzAIDPlzoBS-WLJ_aXzdKbp-B69&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI84KR4pC_hgMVN5lQBh2PtgCfEAQYASABEgJp9fD_BwE#GOR009152864 1
Cunny Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Spain 1982 is the first World Cup I properly remember. I was spellbound by that Brasil team. Had never seen anything like it before. Was gutted when Italy knocked them out.
oojason Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Yeah, different class and philosophy. Even watching as a kid this was something different. Special. FIFA did a good 50 minute documentary on the great '82 side last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfIvpCgIUU0 The official 'World Cup Films' from back then were something else too. The '82 one had Sean Connery doing narration: https://www.plus.fifa.com/en/content/gole-1982-fifa-world-cup-official-film/f5911c80-0acb-440f-82f6-045415c2a997?gl=gb

First time I'd witnessed corruption in football. Absolutely disgraceful stuff in some of the games.
guernseygareth Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 If anyone fancies a copy of that biography then send us a DM. Tis a good read. Love Socrates and the whole package. Top man.
Duncan Disorderly Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 '82 was my first real World Cup baptism, as I was only 10 in '78. That Brazil team was incredible, and I fell in love with Socrates. I ran crying to my room when his header was saved on the line by Zoff.
