We've been here before over the years but the last few have seen an explosion of talent and our 'best ever 11' has literally 10 or more new contenders. So I'll give it a go.

Allison

Trent

Virgil

Hansen

Hughes

Gerrard

Souness

Mascherano

Suarez

Torres

Salah

and I could pick another 11 just as good, I've even left Kenny, Heighway and Barnes out, no Rushie, no Robbo or Mane.

We are blessed.

It's tough to picture b*ggering around with this current team. It's soooooo good.

The old players would really struggle in today's game. I'm biased, and would have to get Kenny in the line-up. I'd go with:

Allison

Trent

Virgil

Sami

Robbo

Souness

Mascherano

Gerrard

Kenny

Torres

Salah

4-2-1-3

Only players I’ve seen

Allison

TAA Hyypia VVD Robertson

Gerrard Alonso Mascherano

Mane Torres Suarez

Surprised at the amount of Mascherano selections over Alonso, especially when Souness is already in there

Got this wrong. Would take Suarez over Torres at 9. He excels in the role with Barca. Alonso over Masch too. Soupy would be great in front of that back four. So:

--------------Alisson----------------

TAA----Hyypia-----VVD----Robbo

---------------Souey----------------

---------Stevie-----Xabi------------

Mo----------Suarez---------Kenny

Wooooah, Murph....

I loved Emlyn, but at LB, he doesn't beat Robbo or Steve Nicol.

Alisson

Trent Hansen Virgil Robbo

Souness

Mane Gerrard Barnes

Salah Rush

And it's fun to do seven subs, so

Clemence, Nicol, Lawrenson, Alonso, Fowler, Kenny, Gini

He played left back, centre mid and sweeper all with aplomb, plus I loved watching him for the reasons he won the Crazy Horse moniker. But yeah it is difficult Case, as can be witnessed by you leaving Suarez out?  :nono:

Yeah Mane/Salah was a dilemma but I decided to assume everyone was at their peak form.

A few years ago, I thought it was amazing that Gerrard and Suarez had broken in to the all-time XI, which had seemed so settled.

That we now have so many new entrants is extraordinary.

A post '90 XI, as those are players i've seen properly and remember well:

Allison

Trent Carra VVD Robertson

Gerrard Henderson Coutinho

Salah Suarez Mane

Havent seen too much of Hansen or Lawrenson, so will go with Carragher. Hyypia was probably a better defender, but VVD has the arial side of things under control and i'm going with Carra for his positioning and leadership and determination. It's strange to have Trent, Robbo, VVD and Alison in there when none has made 100+ appearances, but they've show how good they are very quickly.

The midfield plays Klopp's system of ball retention and pressing. Of the 3 Henderson is being played slightly deeper. Gerrard and Coutinho have the difficult balance of keeping possession and linking midfield to attack. We're missing Firmino's role of playing slightly deeper so we're asking more of the midfield. It's important they don't both bomb forward randomly leaving Henderson alone, so coaching is vital.

The forwards all score goals, not much needs to be said.

I am desperately trying to get Salah, Firmino, Alonso, Torres, Rush and Keegan in - and failing.

Fowler and Owen aren't even close.

Ha ha. Yes, I remember Emlyn playing all those positions.

And Suarez? Yes, tough, of course, but Ian Rush, y'know? Not mentioned by many strangely.

And if we're talking everyone at peak fitness and game, for me, Robbie was as good as Suarez.

Opinions, like.

Hansen, Souness, Dalglish, Gerrard and Barnes all still get in a best ever XI.

I don't think the younger generation realise just how good Emlyn Hughes, Ray Kennedy and Steve Nicol were.

Probably just like I can't appreciate how good Billy Liddell, Roger Hunt and Ron Yeats were.

Probably this.

Mad that guys like Torres, Rush, Fowler and Keegan don't get a look in. And McManaman not even a mention.

Really? I think Carragher was a lot better than him myself.

Don't get that at all. Hyypia did everything better except last ditch tackles. And there's an argument to be made he didn't need to do those.
