WillG Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Watching the games tonight and two names popped up as players who almost joined us... Clint Dempsey and Loic Remy What other bullets have we dodged in the last ten years or so?
Hassony Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Both Dempsey and Remy would have been useful for us at the time I think, the problem with Dempsey was that Rodgers was trying to give them Hendo in exchange Gotze
crisps Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) Didn’t Rafa want to replace Alonso with Barry? And Lucas Neill after he clattered Cara? Also not sure if he’s any good but that Texeira guy that chose to go to the Chinese league at 26 Edited December 11, 2019 by crisps
Cheesecake Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 The other side of the coin.... can't believe people (thanks Eddie Howe) gave us money for Smith, Ibe and Solanke. He'll not live that down for a long time. See also Benteke and Sakho.
growler Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Andy Carroll - offloading when we did. Would depay count?
Ibby Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Andy Carroll - offloading when we did. Would depay count?Depay is integral to the rejuvenated Dutch side. Think he could do a job for us if he ever joined
surf Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Simao, Quaresma. Don't think they would have suited the league. Kezman.
JRC Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) Didn’t Rafa want to replace Alonso with Barry? Gareth Barry instead went into the terminal career decline of joining City and winning the PL, whilst Alonso left anyway (admittedly after being persuaded to stay for another, stellar season) and was never adequate!y replaced. I called Pepe after the Arsenal game, probably too early tbf (esp as I dismissed Henry after his shocking debut vs us), but not proven wrong yet. Edited December 11, 2019 by JRC
Stevie H Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Depay is integral to the rejuvenated Dutch side. Think he could do a job for us if he ever joined He does look like a player transformed doesn't he? Maybe he's just grown up and stopped being a wally.
Hassony Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Phil Jones.Good shout, what's strange is that he is still a united player
Swipe Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Saw someone post a Ferguson quote the other day, from the time they signed him. He was saying he could go on to be United’s best ever.
Benzo-13 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Gordon Durie, Peter Ndlovu, Darren Wassell and Trevor Steven
épieur Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) I remember boumsong being a one man defence for Newcastle when he first joined before settling down to their level. Think they broke him. Could have been a player. Probably been as many we should have dodged and didn't though. Edited December 11, 2019 by Kid Klopp
McBain Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Not enough people can say the following name. I'll add mine to the list Phil Jones Didn't we try and sign Giannakopolous?
Maldini Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Good shout, what's strange is that he is still a united player I was gutted when they got him, they signed him the same week we got Henderson, they're both due testimonials at the end of next season.
Earl Hafler Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Saw someone post a Ferguson quote the other day, from the time they signed him. He was saying he could go on to be United’s best ever. There were Duncan Edwards comparisons, weren't there?
Barnesy_10 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 There were Duncan Edwards comparisons, weren't there? And supposedly the next John Terry
Gerry Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Phil Jones Given you said it first I'll quote you, unlike Hassony who only has eyes for Swipe. But anyway, Phil Jones x1000.
