Camper vans/conversions

Anyone got any experience of these? I'm looking at getting either a Mazda Bongo (mostly for the name) or Nissan Elgrand, preferably with the conversion already done but I'm not averse to doing a bit of that myself.

 

A mate of mine is into Transporters and converting them from work vans to campers, but I just think they're so overpriced compared to the japanese imports purely because of fashion.
