New York Red Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 This tends to get lost in the FSG thread, but I think that things will take off on this shortly with a new announcement. There is chatter about the capacity of the stadium being raised up to 62-64K. Personally, though I think we need it, I think there are a number of issues which make this an impossibility. The transportation is lacking for one. The expansion of the Main Stand added 8500 seats, but given that the Anfield Road End is so much narrower, It would appear that an extra 8-10K seats there is an impossibility. That is unless... 1. There are thoughts of building a single tier stand as a "New Kop" and turning The Kop into a smaller two or three tiered stand.2. That they will rebuild the ARE with new corners, set back from the pitch more and in a three deck configuration in the style of the Main Stand. I still think that re-routing WBR is the way to go mind.
magneto Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 A single-tier Anny becoming the Kop, it would be segregated with the away fans then?
bsl Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 Why is rerouting WBR constantly wheeled out? Its a main road which 2 bus routes use, and has businesses and homes on the other side of the road.

Also there is a grand plan for the WBR area which involves knocking a lot of those businesses down, so combining this plan with the club's plans and incorporating a small rerouting to enable the ground to grow doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility.

The new housing round there rules it out completely I think.

Billy Talbot Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 I think the rerouting of WBR ship has sailed sadly. Although these plans from back in 2016 look like we could have done something. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-37218776

I remember thinking that both the club and the council could have managed to get something in the plans about re-routing the road, but the club didn't have the foresight and Joe Anderson wanted to put one in the red s***e's eye.

If they wanted to it could have been sorted definitely.
New York Red Posted August 29, 2019 Author Posted August 29, 2019 It could have been a vast improvement if thought out properly. It would have created better housing, made traffic safer, and boosted the economy. And it would have given us room to expand.

Falconhoof Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 Tunnel under the houses from under the main stand. Slow subsidence should have them condemned and worthless.

What does seem to be a definite no is the original expansion of the upper deck of the Annie. It’s going to be bigger than that in some form or another.
growler Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 I can’t see how we get to 65+ unless we move the kop and make current one multi-tier.
Martian Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 How about opening the old underground station to relieve road trafic?

The Kop is already dwarfed by the Main Stand and the extra capacity, and the non-corporate nature of The Kop makes the idea of a huge, single tier “New Kop” seem a lot more feasible.

People love a good moan about them at the best of times, that's just asking for it!
