brouhaha Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 (edited) Has anyone seen the Amazon Original, first episode of This is Football- 'Redemption' (Rwanda Reds)? It's a documentary of a group of Liverpool fans in Rwanda, who have supported each other through their common love of all things LFC, after the Rwandan genocide in the 90's. The things the people of Rwanda must have gone through, I knew about it at the time, but hey what did it have to do with me? It makes you realise how lucky we are in this country, the petty stresses and annoyances. My god I can’t even image having a game of football with the knob head a few doors down who keeps the street up most weekends till the early hours with his loud music and coke snorting chav mates, let alone having a kick about with the very people responsible for massacring your entire family/ village/ community. Unbelievable strength. I’m not usually emotional but that last scene at Anfield made me cry and cry Edited August 11, 2019 by brouhaha
Gethin Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 I'll have a look at that - cheers. We've had the Rwandan national cycling team here to do a training camp - the cycling programme (like many other things in the country) was set up to give kids in refugee camps something to do and some hope for the future. Cycling's really taken off over there and two of the kids that stayed with us have gone on to ride for pro teams in France. Talking to the coaches they reckon it's remarkable how far the country has come since those times. Like you said, huge metal strength to put genocide behind you so the country can move forward
Lark Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 i watched it, incredible story even if you take out the lfc element, they could have just done a documentary about how they came to love football and the rwanda story itself and it would have been an incredible documentary.
Gethin Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 Just watched it. Wow Same here - incredible programme. If you've got access to Amazon Video, it's well worth a watch Cheers for the heads up brouhaha
Falconhoof Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 Watching it now. I will probably watch this again. It’s essential for every Liverpool fan
allez les rouges Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 Watching it now. I will probably watch this again. It’s essential for every Liverpool fanAgreed its a must see for all football fans. It really warms your heart. I hope it creates real bonds with local fans and the Rwanda reds. I suspect it will and they will be inundated with invitations to come to more games.
Gethin Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 If you've signed up for the Amazon Prime free trial, don't forget to watch this before you cancel
Tommok Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 (edited) Yeah it really is a great watch. I had some dust in my eyes a couple of times Edited December 8, 2019 by TommoK
Zoob Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 Cheers. never heard of this and will check it out. I have a friend who did PTSD work with people in Rwanda. One of the saddest things was hearing of a whole generation of people who had no idea how to be parents because they were so young when their parents were killed, and were just put in state orphanages etc.
