Pictures on android phone

Randomly my wife's phone removes pictures from her phone, usually just after you look at them. Any ideas in how to fix this, it leaves a grey pixel with an exclamation mark in its place. Sometimes when you click on this pixel, the photos reappears but doesnt let you send, edit it etc. Any ideas on how to fix this
