So if Premier League matches become free, how does grassroots football compete? Gate receipts are everything lower down the leagues.

Well at least cheaper for real fans (free for kids), or concessions for certain demograpics. They can't justify high prices for match tickets any more.

of course 'they' can

supply/demand, premium product, free-tickets would just lead to touting on a massive scale etc etc

and that's all before the main, real reason - they can get away with it, so they will do it and they like having the cash

what they need to do is spread the wealth more evenly. Like 50% of the Premier League TV money to go to the other divisions + non league etc.

and why would a PL club agree to that?

Why? What would we benefit as fans?

You'd possibly end up with a bunch of dodgy people buying lower league clubs and pocketing the money. Perhaps it's time to realize there are just too many football teams at a time when disposable income may be on the decline.

The only way it's logically going to go is to the end the collective negotiation and every club making their own deal or launching their own PPV channel.

The system as it is is 100% geared to the richer getting richer. All leagues across Europe are becoming more & more predictable. If we're not going to share the wealth then something pretty leftfield needs to be done.

Spain - 13 of the last 14 seasons = Barca or Real

Italy - Last 7 to Juve, Inter won 5 of the 6 before that

Bundesliga = 7 of the last 9 won by Bayern

Premier League - Leicester aside, every one since 1996 has been won my one of ManU, ManC, Arsenal or Chelsea. At least that's a bit of relative interest since it's a decade since anyone retained it

PSG are relative newcomers to the French table but you can't see that changing much any time soon

Scotland is a joke

Portugal is like Spain, it's Porto or Benfica

Mind - I'd be pretty ok if it was us every season

Especially if, like Brighton, it equates to 37% of their turnover, plus their staffing bill is larger than their income!

It’s the way it will go eventually. Though arguably collective bargaining it’s why the PL is so successful. But no one wants to watch most of the games. 16 teams and 2 relegations. Maybe even 14.

Has anyone on here watched a PPV game on sky/bt etc from outside the PL? I have not and doubt if I ever will, games not involving LFC are a rarity that I watch with anything more that a passing interest, sky showing some club versus another on a friday or whatever bores me. I can't believe that there are 92 league clubs that are still a going concern in this day and age. Maybe the interest is there from some of you who have a second team or whatever but I'm not seeing it.

I particularly am stumped by this:

"The quality of the Championship now was such it attracted larger television audiences and was probably the second-best league in Europe,"

Really?

I can’t understand how this isn’t a thing. There is effectively infinite money at the top of the game. You could make English football throughout the leagues dead amazing if there was a better (any) redistribution system.

You’re being a bad c***.

probably why anny road not done. it's not worth the hassle to them while the cash from tv comes flying in

That won't be why.

It will be cost/benefit based.
