Ethical dilemma

The nipper came to me last night very upset. 

 

She got a pair of Air Pods - the wireless Apple headphones - at school from some lad for $50. Turns out they were nicked and it turns out she was with him when he pinched them.

 

I haven't ascertained yet whether she knew he was going to pinch them or whether she was with him & he did. But now she's wracked with guilt. 

 

The fact that she came to me and told me rather than me finding out buys her some credit. She wants to throw them out, but I think maybe being made to take them back to Apple and explain - in sorts - is better.

 

I don't know who the lad is or care what happens to him - I don't want her roped into something messy like having to name him & the bizzies getting involved though.

 

I'm going to make her give $50 from her next babysitting gig to charity, so she can learn & feel a little social responsibility but it's more how to handle the physical headphone issue.
