They had Phil Neville on Off The Ball earlier (Irish Radio Sports Talk Show) to talk about both derbies this weekend given he played in both.

Kevin Kilbane is a regular host of this show and obviously a blue too. Both said that they felt they could give Liverpool a game at Everton but there was a fear factor at Anfield that inhibited them too much. This was all before the draw came out.

Given how attacking we are and Allardyce mindset to focus on the defence first, you wonder if they'll lose that fear in the next 5 weeks and be brave enough and come out.

For the weekend, I suspect they wont play both Rooney and Sigurdsson - forward thinking players, not the most mobile, like ball to feet - ideal for our intense pressing game. Playing both of them reduces outballs over the top. I wonder if Calvert Lewin will play with Lennon and Lookman/Mirallas on the sides. A more disciplined defensive set up would be a 5-4-1 with a diamond midfield, leave space for our fullbacks and try hit that space on the break.

It'd be quite stupid to drop Sigurdsson, he's their best player..but then again I'm Icelandic..

Its not personal ;)

I just don't see Allardyce playing both Rooney and Sigurdsson along with an energetic/mobile striker which I think they need as an out-ball. Too many balls to feet entices the press/tackle, they ideally want to hit space out wide for Lennon/Mirallas to get them forward and then hope to gain - at best a set piece, at worst then some relief for the defence.

The template of how to frustrate us is there from other teams. I think Allardyce will give everyone "robotic" roles to carry out and try frustrate us. If it works and they get a draw then the players and management succeed in carrying out their object and the fans kept onside. The alternative is a battle to overcome a local defeat and build the players back up for an intensive period.

Get our best lads on the pitch. Allardyce is not taking a forward step and risking a walloping. Given the gravity and history of the game at Anfield and the need to build some goodwill ahead of the Christmas period (i.e. Everton going defensive) then we should have lots of the ball. Get players on the pitch to dictate it deep like Lallana/Coutinho and then feed Salah/Mane with Firmino floating all over.

I suppose if you’re going to choose a Friday night game, any kind of derby is good for it ‘cos the vast majority of fans will be local

Still hate Friday night sport though
