can't see Mane being on the bench

Klopp said 'maybe 20-25 mins' in his PC today. Also said he is not injured but maybe not match fit and implied he may be released to Senegal but hopes he would only play 1st game.

Down Memory Lane

YNWA looks back at past memorable away League encounters as we prepare to visit West Ham United for the sixtieth time in the League on Saturday, but only the second time at the London Stadium. Our overall away League record against the Hammers is quite good, reading 23 wins, fifteen draws and 21 defeats to date.

Most recently

We triumphed 4-0 last May, with Daniel Sturridge putting us ahead before the break. Philippe Coutinho nabbed a brace with Divock Origi completing the scoring.

We lost our last two League trips to Upton Park, 2-0 in January 2016 thanks to headed goals from Michail Antonio and ex-red Andy Carroll, and 3-1 in September 2014. Winston Reid and Diafra Sakho put the Irons two up inside the first ten minutes in 2014, with ex-red Stewart Downing effectively man-marking Steven Gerrard. Raheem Sterling struck to give the reds hope, but Morgan Amalfitano completed the scoring late on. This meant we set a new club record of scoring in seventeen consecutive away games in the top flight, a record that eventually stopped at eighteen.

We won 2-1 in April 2014, with Steven Gerrard converting two spot kicks as ex-red Andy Carroll proved an awkward opponent, with Jordan Henderson playing his hundredth reds game. We won 3-2 in December 2012, with ex-Hammer Glen Johnson handing us an early lead. Mark Noble equalised from the spot before Steven Gerrard headed into his own net. Late goals from ex-United player Joe Cole and Jonjo Shelvey ensured we left with all three points. These were Cole and Shelvey’s last reds strikes.

Dirk Kuyt scored in his third consecutive reds game as we won 3-2 in September 2009. Fernando Torres bagged a brace as we twice saw a lead cancelled out by Alessandro Diamanti and then Carlton Cole before he finally secured victory by heading home from a cross by substitute Ryan Babel. We won 3-0 four months earlier thanks to a Steven Gerrard brace and a goal from Babel. The skipper’s second goal came when keeper Robert Green saved his penalty, although he followed in to net the rebound. His first was his hundredth reds goal form open play. The comedy moment of the game came when David Di Michele performed a laughable dive that led to a booking.

In January 2007, Peter Crouch was on target on his 26th birthday as we won 2-1, after Dirk Kuyt had opened the scoring straight after the break. The board members had met before the game to reconsider DIC’s offer for the club in the light of a potential new bid from George Gillett.

Xabi Alonso eat your heart out!

Donald Mackinlay scored from ten yards inside his own half as we won 2-1 in January 1926, with Tom Scott grabbing the other, and Vic Watson bagging the first of his nine goals against the reds. Nine months earlier, Mackinlay struck the only goal of the game as we secured our first win at Upton Park.

Off!

Luis García and the Hammers’ Hayden Mullins were both sent off in April 2006, meaning that they were both suspended for the upcoming FA Cup Final meeting between the two sides. Mullins was the fifteenth opposition player sent off against us that season. Djibril Cissé bagged a brace as we won 2-1, with the game being preceded by a perfectly-observed minute’s silence for former Hammers manager John Lyall, who had died the week before.

Milestone games

We secured our 200th Premiership win in February 2003 with a Milan Baroš header and a Steven Gerrard thunderbolt giving us an early cushion. A late Emile Heskey goal, his third header in as many League games, wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 win over the Hammers, who were relegated at the end of the season. This goal trickled over the line with such a lack of pace that it failed to actually hit the back of the net! In December 2001, Michael Owen scored his hundredth reds goal after Trevor Sinclair had given the Irons the lead, as we drew 1-1. This was our 200th League goal under Gérard Houllier's sole charge.

Ian Callaghan became our youngest post-War player to reach 300 League appearances in February 1969, aged 26 years and 318 days. We drew 1-1, with Roger Hunt on target as the Hammers opened the new 8,500-seater East Stand. Forward John Evans made his hundredth reds appearance as we drew 1-1 in September 1956, with Billy Liddell netting in this Second Division encounter. Future Manchester United boss Frank O’Farrell scored for the home side.

Reds defeated

In January 1964, the Hammers completed the only League double over the reds that season, winning 1-0. Vic Watson netted the final four of his nine goals against the reds as we were crushed 7-0 in September 1930, with Stan Earle nabbing two of his four past us and Wilfred James also on the scoresheet. We lost 4-1 eight months before with Jim Smith nabbing our consolation as centre-half David Davidson put through his own net while playing his 62nd and final reds game. Jim Barrett, George Robson and Vic Watson also netted for the Irons. In January 1924, our first League visit ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Red trebles

In October 1983, Michael Robinson bagged a hat-trick, his first League goals for the reds, as we won 3-1, despite Craig Johnston being sent off just after the hour mark. Billy Bonds made his 700th West Ham appearance in this game, as we closed the gap on the second-placed Hammers to two points. Alan Devonshire grabbed the home side’s consolation.

John Toshack bagged a genuine hat-trick of right-foot shot, left-foot and then a header as we triumphed 4-0 in January 1976. Kevin Keegan netted our other goal late on. ‘Sir’ Roger Hunt netted a treble in our 5-1 win in September 1965, after Gordon Milne and Ian Callaghan had opened the scoring. Martin Peters struck one of his fourteen goals against the reds.

Reds debutants

Doug Livermore, who became the club’s Assistant Manager under Roy Evans, made his reds bow in our 1-0 defeat in April 1968, with Martin Peters netting. He only played eighteen games for us during his five year spell as a player at Anfield. Centre-forward Les Bruton made the first of his eight reds appearances in a 1-0 defeat in February 1932, with Jimmy Ruffell bagging the last of his four goals against us. Centre-forward Bill Devlin scored on his reds debut in a 3-3 draw in May 1927, with Gordon Hodgson adding a brace in our final game of the season as we finished in ninth, as Tommy Lucas had a penalty saved.

Other memorable meetings

Substitute Kenny Dalglish struck twice in a 5-2 victory in September 1986, with Ronnie Whelan, Craig Johnston and Ian Rush also on target. Future reds first-team coach Kevin Keen made his senior Hammers debut in this game. Ray Stewart put the home side in front inside ten minutes, with Tony Cottee bagging the first of his eight goals against the reds.

John Toshack struck as we drew 2-2 in April 1974, with Kevin Keegan on target at the death. Alec Lindsay had a penalty saved by Mervyn Day in the first half. Trevor Brooking and Frank Lampard struck for the Irons. Ex-red Don Hutchison bagged a brace as we lost 3-0 in May 1995, with midfielder Matty Holmes having opened the scoring. We lost 2-0 in a Second Division fixture in February 1956 thanks to own goals from left-half Geoff Twentyman and right-back John Molyneux.

Sturridge to start surely.

Is Sturridge supposed to improve, physically or something

Cos atm he’s the dictionary definition of a luxury player, unsuited to our style, and can’t sprint anymore

Really wanna see a def of

AA - Gomez - Matip - Moreno

Think Gomez could be a revelation.

Moreno has impressed beyond words, didnt think it was possible and Robertson is very good too.

Scored 2 in his last 2 appearances. I think that's the good kind of luxury atm.
