I said I thought they were all guaranteed to be great. And they were. Salah was scoring very close to 1 in 2 in a top league while playing in champions league. The fact he barely played for Chelsea meant nothing.

Sure, yeah.  I'm saying I didn't have the same faith in them as you did.

This is overplayed massively to show that Edwards and his geeks were great

Klopp didn't know much of Salah,  the scouts and geeks did their job and told him about him

We were lucky to get Salah so cheap as his price would have doubled two months later after the Neymar fee changed the market

Salah was sensational in Italy

Similar to KDB when he moved to city, the Chelsea spell was meaningless

Yep.  Hindsight proved this of course in the biggest way ever possible.   Before his debut for us though, I didn't really have any clue whether he'd be THIS sensational, this guaranteed.  It was my opinion at the time. That's all.  I'm in no way playing down the player.

“You want the difficult or simple answer?” Slot retorted when asked what qualities he wants in his No. 9.

The simple answer is what you want from a number nine, goals. That’s why you play a forward, not only your winger but also your number nine. So he needs to produce goals.

“Apart from that, I think in modern day football, a number nine, like a right winger, like a midfielder, like a defender, they need to work hard and be part of an intense pressing team.

“If you look at the teams that are now playing in the semi-final of the Champions League, they are all 11 players that work their ass off, apologies for the language!

“That is also what I’m expecting from our number nine that is part of an intense pressing team.

“But in the end, it is helpful if the number nine of Liverpool, or at any team in the world, scores goals. That was the short answer

He hates Nunez doesn’t he.

Ķlopp didn't know much about Salah, but he also was fixated on the Dortmund fella... Brandt was it?

If he was fixated on him he'd have signed him. Brandt was on the club list so they liked him too. They said to Klopp we reckon Salah might be better, showed him footage and he agreed.

So the story goes anyway.

Joyce's article said he's failed to respond to Slot's coaching. He probably hates how he can't information onboard

Yeah was telling that line too. I’d obviously prefer someone immediately brilliant but even someone raw in to replace him will make a difference

It's Cisse all over again. He has everything except the mental side.

Yeah. Rumours in the press today that Nunez had a bust up with a member of the coaching staff before the WHAM game. Denied, obvs.

But I reckon he’s toast.

Yeah slots denial wasn’t that convincing really.

Can’t see us signing someone like Cherki if workrate is important, especially if we’re doing a lot of running for Salah in the next 2 years.

Gyokeres then?

Think he is arsenal bound.

I'm still surprised no premiership team went for him at the £25m mark. Was banging in the goals for Coventry..

Nice profit for Sporting

Or the finishing ability.

Cisse wasn't good enough technically and nor is Nunez. That is far more of an issue than their mentality.

I think at his best he shows power and pace. Never seen much technical ability tbh, some nice link up with Salah aside.

An awful signing. Looked clumsy almost immediately.

There's been a bit of chat about getting  someone in the Szoboszlai position who will get more goal involvements. I saw Oihan Sancet has a YNWA tattoo on his arm (it worked for Torres) - he's 4th top scorer in La Liga with 16 G/A in 23 games for Bilbao. 25 this month and apparently has a €65m release clause.

Admittedly I've not seen much of him but may keep an eye out in the Mancs games

To be fair, he can hit the woodwork like no one else - even in training

I think people remember howling misses when in his first season he hit the woodwork a preposterous number of times and forced plenty of saves. His finishing only got genuinely and consistently bad second half of last season as I recall.

That line in Joyce's recent piece about Nunez "not responding to Slot's coaching" can't have come from Joyce's imagination, you'd think.

Edit: Just seen this is mentioned elsewhere in the thread, sorry.

Reckon the race for him will be between Arsenal and Man Utd.

I still feel Alvarez would be really good for us, especially now he's scoring a few more. Works his a*** off, links play, facilitates Messi for the national team better than other strikers in the squad, which suggests he would link up well with Salah. But just don't see how a deal for him gets done.

Isak is pretty clearly the best No9 in the PL, but price, injury record and the fact Newcastle probably get into the CL suggest that's also unlikely.

Some of the younger, unproven lads who get linked (Ekitike, Sesko) feel more like punts. Don't think we'd want to risk another Nunez scenario, although they could yet prove to be world beaters.

Very curious who we get, because we're clearly after someone.
