We soon decide that it’s not a good time to buy or the player in question isn’t better than what we already have as soon as money is mentioned.

FakeNewsBear Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago It may be post defeat heebie-jeebies but I am starting to worry about ALL three leaving. VvD & Salah have the regression models against them and Trent, probably needs a new challenge and wants to be with his mate.

The club has to decide if its big enougb to then go out and build a new squad. Because as well as those three, we will need to sell and replace Nunez, Endo, Tsimikas, Elliott. They are all decent players on their day but its clear the manager doesn't rate them. I reckon we will need between 5 and 7 new players in this summer. The club isn't in tbe habit if doing that, but Hughes did in summer 2023, signing 6 players: Justin Kluivert (Roma) - £9.5M Milos Kerkez (AZ Alkmaar) - £15.5M Romain Faivre (Lyon) - £12.8M Alex Scott (Bristol City) - £25M Max Aarons (Norwich City) - £7M Tyler Adams (Leeds United) - £23M This is probably what Hughes has been recruited for. 1

This summer will involve a s*** tonne of work whether it’s contracts extensions or signings. If Hughes comes out of it signing all the necessary quality in the necessary places then take back everything I said …. If he doesn’t and we get lame excuses about player availability and the ‘market’ then he can get f***ed and needs to be forced out for being inept All true. That said, you’d assume every player we sign (and let go) this Summer will have Slot’s ok. The squad we start with will be ‘his’ first squad. He, by the way, needs a new contract.

I wonder if Slot wants Mo and Virgil to stay but FSG are refusing to offer the wages required bearing in mind their ages 1

Falconhoof Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Yeah its not something that he signs off. They either want to sign for Liverpool or not. There's no deciaion to be made.

Case Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I think he does want a few out, and clearly we need two/three extra quality players he trusts. Will be exciting given he’ll be off the back of this season.

Made this point before: the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth recruit well, but not usually the type of players that can come in and make the same kind of impact for a CL level club. Those players need at least a season or two to settle into the PL and prove whether they can make the next step up, whilst getting game time that they just wouldn't with us. We either have to buy those players and loan them out (which, on an industrial scale, is the Chelsea model) or accept the fact that we'll have to pay more for the ones that do prove themselves. 2 1
Swipe Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago It’s not the recruitment team there. Bloom sacked most of them last year I think. It’s his Starlizard data analysis company. It’s how he made a fortune in gambling too. 2

Yep, that's fair enough. There's also the confirmation bias where we pick up on the players that do make it, and forget about/ignore/never hear about those that fail. But those teams definitely seem to have something in their player selection that we could do with. And I think there can be a balance - like it doesn't have to be the Chelsea level of madness (buying 30 youngsters and loaning them all out) but I wouldn't mind us taking a bit more of a wide approach, since Chelsea at least have found a few good players, and also made money with that approach.

You say that, but what if you get trapped in a giant tube. Or something happens and people keep knocking on your door and shouting through the letterbox, demanding advice. I can't imagine that you will allow excitement to interfere with you then.

Might as well chuck it in then.
