Now. I'm not suggesting we're definitely going to win the #6 in Kiev.

 

But, just for the sake of a bit of light discussion.

 

Is the squad (not just the team, the squad) stronger man for man than the 04/05 squad?

 

So Dudek/Kirkland/Carson v Mignolet/Marius/Ward

 

Djimi (!) Milner

 

Finnan/Josemi v Clyne/TAA ..... And so on...

 

Obviously there were some lads in 05 that are nowhere near worse than now, but what do we reckon - stronger squad then? Or now?

Alonso & Gerrard were great, but Xabi was at the start of hir rise. Luis Garcia was mercurial, Sami & Carra would die for the team. 

 

The kids - FSP, LeTallec, Mellor all played their part - think Olympiacos & Juve (H), Jerzy had a shaky game in the Final but came up big when he was needed

Yeah, that's why I think there are certain parallels in squad quality. You could argue that the best European teams now are better than they were then, and you'd possibly be right, but Jeez, that Milan side in the Final, Juve, Chelsea were all great sides.
