I was always a big fan of 'Dubai' (i.e. Sheikh Makhtoum) buying us. And I was led to believe that it was going to happen.

 

Finally today I heard the full story.

 

Moores, Parry and their Rep went out to Dubai to discuss final details. Everything was based on it all being kept very quiet,

 

Unfortunately, Neil Mellor scored late on (v Arsenal), David Moores (pissed in a bar) celebrated and decided to tell everyone within earshot who he was and why he was there.

 

The royal family over there have eyes and ears everywhere.

 

The meeting, scheduled for the following day, was cancelled,

I may have confused the identity of the scorer.

 

But I don't think so - I'm sure it was Mellor v Arsenal, but I have been known to merge two separate stories before

What was "absolutely meaningless"? Moores' fundamental failiure to respect the express wishes of a prospective buyer/total lack of respect?

So true I had to say it twice. Love clubs like atletico Madrid and borussia Dortmund. We are not going to be all conquering heroes like the 70s and 80s.

Parry sort of ties up in that interview he did on TAW iirc. He said that they 'stopped answering their calls' and they'd agreed to stump up some cash but never did. 

 

He didn't mention this as the reason why though. You can see why.

They were still trying to buy the club in 2008/9 weren't they? That woman stating confidently that they would own it eventually and that Tom hicks knew it.

If they were put off by some drunken boasting then they obviously didn't really want to buy us. This is a several hundred mm pound deal, Moores' actions on one night in some bar in Dubai shouldn't ultimately have any influence.
