Working from home and a young family

So. I'm increasingly spending more and more time away from home on various trips all over the show.

 

It's a great experience, see some great places but its hard work. The hardest part for all concerned however is leaving the family. My lad is starting to notice when I go away now which isn't nice, and it obviously puts a strain on my relationship with the fiance because she's invevitably working and looking after the little one on her own.

 

Any advice as to best deal with this friends? We're already doing the Skype/Facetime lark which only goes so far.
