Top Selling Music Artists Of All Time

Following George Michael's death, I've had a  discussion with a friend regarding record sales. I've heard claims of record numbers sold that vary wildly. Is there a reliable list anywhere? Most point towards the usual suspects in the top spots i.e. Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elivs but some also have the likes of Garth Brooks near the top. Also any idea if sales numbers are for albums alone or for albums + singles?
