I've been trying to get back to playing organised football fitness again over the last couple of months, and I've been reading quite a bit on the nutritional side. What I've found interesting is that there seems to be a lot of evidence that the general advice on healthy eating is scientifically incorrect, and directly leading to the increasing levels of obesity and type 2 diabetes in the modern world.

It seems to now be thought that saturated fat is actually good for you as it occurs in food in its 'real' form and if anything helps you lose weight. It's the huge volume of carbs and sugar that we are eating now that cause us to carry a lot more weight as our bodies burn that instead of fat which is what our bodies should be built to burn. This type of diet also reduces the amount of chemicals and additives we are absorbing from food which is sold as low fat but is full of sweeteners and additives.

I know we've got a few doctors on here too - would be interested to hear what they think of this?
