Shankly quote about street sweeping

I've just googled it a bit and not found it. But there is one about if he was a street sweeper, the streets would be the cleanest streets. 

 

I can't find it. Anyone help?

Yeah, can find that one on YouTube bit there is one about streets that gets referred to. Might be a corruption of that one.

Maybe a separate discussion, but is it? It was a f***ing hard read....I stayed with it out of a sense of duty more than anything else. Just not sure the style worked that well.

I think you can allow yourself to skip through bits once you know the formula - reading every team out gets a bit much like - but the pay-off of the last few pages makes the effort worthwhile, it's a really beautiful flourish of an ending that makes sense of the grind, although I don't think you'd appreciate without going through the bulk to get there.

I found Red Or Dead very moving and beautiful in the end. I admit I initially glossed over some of the team sheets and records of attendance but then you become kind of hypnotised by it and read on. I think the conceit of listing the everyday quotidian stuff including his house chores, oven cleaning etc has a cumulative effect and enhances your understanding of the mans exacting, rigorous attention to detail, it's what made him great as well as his wit and understanding of and empathy with ordinary people

Peace must have been really pleased with that ending. He must have been terrified of where it would go and then he comes up with that. It's like the Newcastle game for placing a feckin big cherry on top of what was already greatness.

I found the book moving and compelling, the style perfectly captured Shankly's mono-mania and driven passion and   yes, the ending is heart-wrenchingly brilliant
