heighway Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Possibly belongs in the genny but he does talk a good bit about his time with LFC. What a top, top, player and guy: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/02/xabi-alonso-i-want-to-win-everything-there-is-to-win-with-bayern-munich-liverpool
Billy Dane Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Great interview, think he would make a great manager.
Hassony Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 He put in a transfer request as he was that desperate to leave us, f*** him
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Hass probably hates Ian Rush, Keegan, Souness...
Hassony Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Did they also threaten to go on strikes unless they were sold?
kop205 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Did they also threaten to go on strikes unless they were sold? Wasn't that Mascherano?
Tones Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 He put in a transfer request as he was that desperate to leave us, f*** himYeah. He obviously wasn't that happy here
McBain Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Rafa tried to sell him and buy Gareth Barry. Xabi didn't forgive Rafa, but was a professional and gave his best ever season for us afterwards. I thought this was universally known
Tones Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Rafa tried to sell him and buy Gareth Barry. Xabi didn't forgive Rafa, but was a professional and gave his best ever season for us afterwards. I thought this was universally knownYeah but you can't be disappointed to be leaving when you ask to leave surely?
kop205 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Well he left his boyhood club to come to us so he was obviously already a c*** then wasn't he? f*** me, bit of perspective. He gave us 5 years service, provided us with some great memories, and he's always spoken well about us. How anyone can, in the big scheme of things, think anything but good of him is beyond me.
McBain Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Yeah but you can't be disappointed to be leaving when you ask to leave surely?I'll read the article Well he left his boyhood club to come to us so he was obviously already a c*** then wasn't he? f*** me, bit of perspective. He gave us 5 years service, provided us with some great memories, and he's always spoken well about us. How anyone can, in the big scheme of things, think anything but good of him is beyond me.When I was a kid my favourite player was Beardsley. Xabi is the adult version.
Bailo Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Clubs almost always make players put in transfer requests as well to save on loyalty payments and/or face.
Tones Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Clubs almost always make players put in transfer requests as well to save on loyalty payments and/or face. When the player wants to leave, yes.
Bailo Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 When the player wants to leave, yes.So I'm not going to hate on Xabi for that. Christ, we're utterly miserable on here.
Tones Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 So I'm not going to hate on Xabi for that. Christ, we're utterly miserable on here.I don't hate him. He was a very good player for us. I'm just wondering how he (or any player) Can be disappointed to have left when he asked to leave.
kop205 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I think he's always overplayed the Benitez/Barry stuff to an extent in that I reckon once Madrid came knocking he'd have fancied it regardless. But I don't really care. He still seems like a genuinely nice fella.
Hassony Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Don't really hate him as such, just think he gets far too much love from liverpool fans
kop205 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I'm just wondering how he (or any player) Can be disappointed to have left when he asked to leave. It is possible to have such a thing as 'mixed feelings', like.
Swipe Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I think he's always overplayed the Benitez/Barry stuff to an extent in that I reckon once Madrid came knocking he'd have fancied it regardless. But I don't really care. He still seems like a genuinely nice fella.Absolutely. One of the best midfielders of his generation and he's dead cool.

kop205 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Don't really hate him as such, just think he gets far too much love from liverpool fans How much should he get? What scale are you employing? Is he .6 or .8 of a Sami? x4 or x8 of a Harry Kewell?
Earl Hafler Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Well he left his boyhood club to come to us so he was obviously already a c*** then wasn't he? f*** me, bit of perspective. He gave us 5 years service, provided us with some great memories, and he's always spoken well about us. How anyone can, in the big scheme of things, think anything but good of him is beyond me. Also, he's had the type of career which i can admire. Boyhood club then left for Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. I mean....fecks sake. If he did want to leave that summer then, under those circumstances, i wouldn't blame him.
kop205 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Plus what he did with Spain. But just in terms of his time with us, he stayed longer and won more than Suarez and certainly didn't depart in any more murky circumstances than Luis did. I f***ing love Luis but Xabi deserves as much affection in my opinion.
