Rafa tried to sell him and buy Gareth Barry. Xabi didn't forgive Rafa, but was a professional and gave his best ever season for us afterwards. I thought this was universally known

Yeah but you can't be disappointed to be leaving when you ask to leave surely?

Well he left his boyhood club to come to us so he was obviously already a c*** then wasn't he?

f*** me, bit of perspective. He gave us 5 years service, provided us with some great memories, and he's always spoken well about us.

How anyone can, in the big scheme of things, think anything but good of him is beyond me.

I'll read the article

When I was a kid my favourite player was Beardsley. Xabi is the adult version.

Clubs almost always make players put in transfer requests as well to save on loyalty payments and/or face.

When the player wants to leave, yes.

So I'm not going to hate on Xabi for that.

Christ, we're utterly miserable on here.

I don't hate him. He was a very good player for us. I'm just wondering how he (or any player) Can be disappointed to have left when he asked to leave.

I think he's always overplayed the Benitez/Barry stuff to an extent in that I reckon once Madrid came knocking he'd have fancied it regardless.

But I don't really care. He still seems like a genuinely nice fella.

It is possible to have such a thing as 'mixed feelings', like.

Absolutely.

One of the best midfielders of his generation and he's dead cool.

Yeah I agree with that

Don't really hate him as such, just think he gets far too much love from liverpool fans

How much should he get? What scale are you employing?

Is he .6 or .8 of a Sami?

x4 or x8 of a Harry Kewell?

Also, he's had the type of career which i can admire. Boyhood club then left for Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. I mean....fecks sake.

If he did want to leave that summer then, under those circumstances, i wouldn't blame him.

Plus what he did with Spain.

But just in terms of his time with us, he stayed longer and won more than Suarez and certainly didn't depart in any more murky circumstances than Luis did.

I f***ing love Luis but Xabi deserves as much affection in my opinion.
