Phono line to speakers

So my new house has a budget multiroom system with SCART splitters etc to carry the Sky signal through the kitchen TV. But the phono leads from the sky box need separate speakers/amp apparently, they won't run direct into the kitchen TV. So...can I just buy a cheap set of speakers that take a photo input or do I need an amp first?
