This guy should be knighted. Without him I am not sure we could have achieved our aims. Just watched a program in Australia called 30;30  and it was unbelievable. The diligence he showed to achieve the end result ( which frankly I thought would never happen) was incredible. How lucky are we to have a professor of criminality amongst us. When you think of cyclists and cricketers getting knighthoods for something achieved in a team event over 2 or 3 years it beggars belief that he could be overlooked.

Having fought the establishment for over two decades, I think the almost inexpressible thanks of LFC and the city of Liverpool will mean more to him. Of course, if he wants a KBE he should have one.

I'm sure we're all profoundly grateful for what he's achieved but what surprises me most is how the authorities, journalists and the people we all argued with were sometimes gullible, sometimes disinterested and , in too many cases, keen to believe the lies, many of which were glaringly obvious

Phil Scraton is a saint.

Being knighted would put him into the company of such people as Ingham and Bettison. I expect he'd probably turn it down. I used to be a believer in the honours system, but seeing so many that were responsible for the Hillsborough cover up having 'Sir' before their name has pretty much rendered it meaningless to me.

Phil Scraton though - what a man. Incredible.

I have said this before, but I had dinner with Phil a long time ago (2003) as I worked with his wife. Not only is he a man of remarkable integrity with a brilliant brain, he's also great company and a really good laugh.

When I met him he was recovering from an operation during which he nearly died. There is little doubt that if he'd died, so would the chances of the families getting justice.

All this knighthood stuff can do one, imho. As I think Neil Atkinson has pointed out on social media and possibly elsewhere, remember that it was Her Majesty's constabulary and Her Majesty's judiciary that covered up the truth for all this time, so any "honours" that come from that source are less than meaningless.

They can shove them up their collective a*se, frankly.

He is getting the Freedom of the City - he may well value that more than a queen's honour.

It would be nice if LFC honoured him in some significant way also.

He has our eternal gratitude. Any more than that is just titles on a piece of paper that mean less than the sanitised ar$ewipe stuff he found in the Lords library.

i hate this clamour for people to be knighted. knighted by who and what? an unelected head of state and a government that for decades have treated the people of Liverpool with nothing but contempt? f*** the establishment. carry them shoulder high around the Anfield pitch

True. Half the pricks who covered this up have got knighthoods. Why would he want one of them.

Being Knighted also puts him in the company of an awful lot of good people not associated with Hillsborough who are really worthy people. A lot of people in the past have argued that Shanks and Bob Paisley not to mention Kenny should have been knighted although it does seem like something only Man U people can aspire to ! I think I might be the oldest member on this forum but I still have respect for the royal family particularly the Queen and her father and the inspiration they provided to the country during WW2. You may be right and maybe Phil Scraton might not need this honour but it would be recognition that is recognised all over the world.

Did they 'provide' inspiration ? Or did ordinary people draw inspiration from whatever source they could at the time ?
