Watched Horizon on BBC2 last night

and it gave an interesting insight into what they (scientist lads) think will inevitably happen to our Sun. Basically in a few billion years we're gonna roast, the water will dry up and the heat from the expanding mass of the sun will be so severe that it will eventually melt the earth's core. 

It then reckoned our DNA composition and that of the earth will be blasted far and wide so that we will eventually exist as a species in some form on other planets, that will be habitable now that the Sun has run out of gas.

I probably won't be around by that time as I don't eat enough Quinoa but given that travel times should be immediate what does the future hold for our species?
