travelling within ireland

i've to go over to ireland in the summer and want to combine a thursday and friday in navan followed by a long weekend in holywood. what's the situation with travelling from north-west england and doing this the best way? i'd fancy flying into dublin and then picking up a car, driving to navan and then driving on up to holywood and flying back from belfast. that sort of thing sound doable? i.e. pick up a rental car in dublin and drop it off again in belfast? anyone any experience of this?
