With Norwich away on Sat (late game) and Stoke home in the LCSF next week, I'd expect a fairly inexperienced side for this -

Mig

Randall, Ilori, NOT ENRIQUE, Smith

Ibe, Allen, Teixeira, Brannagan

Ojo, Benteke

or something

I'd play Ward to keep him fresh in case we need to call on him. Or Bogdan again for the lolz.

I firmly believe in playing a few of the kids again. Is Caulker cup-Ibe'd?

Ward

Randall Ilori Can Smith

Allen Branagan Stewart

Teixeira

Ojo Benteke

Mignolet, Chirivella, Kent, Enrique, Ibe, Can, Sinclair

Can and Can's brother? Edited by Cam

Apparently Ward can't play as he was brought back too late for registration (for R3)

Yeah - you can't play in a replay if you weren't registered for first one which take Caulker out too. Assume he's not cup tied from Southampton and will be available for future rounds assuming we win the replay

Edit: he's cup, tied in League Cup (played against us) but not future rounds of FA Cup

Lallana needs dropping to bring him back down to earth a bit. Dropped for Teixeira or Ojo for a few games might be what he needs and it's definitely what Ojo and Teixeira need.

Double Agents

In advance of our FA Cup Third Round replay on Wednesday, YNWA looks at the careers of those who have represented both the Grecians and the mighty reds.

Grecian greats

Inside-forward Alan Banks signed from Rankin Boys in May 1958. He netted on his debut against Brighton & Hove Albion four months later, scoring six times in just eight games for the reds in total, leaving for Cambridge City in 1961 and going on to enjoy far greater success in the lower divisions including two spells with Exeter, for whom he bagged 101 goals in 258 League outings. In a PFA survey published in December 2007, he was voted as Exeter’s all-time favourite player.

Full-back Jimmy Gray was born in Glasgow but played international football for South Africa. He signed from Transvaal in 1926 but only played one first-team game for the reds, a 2-1 home League defeat by Sheffield United in September 1928. He left in January 1930 to sign for Exeter City for £75, where he is remembered as one of their greatest ever players, playing 221 games for them and helping them to finish runners-up in Third Division South in 1933. He had a testimonial match played between Exeter and the reds in May 1935.

Northern Irish inside-forward Billy McDevitt was converted to a centre-half after signing from Swansea Town in 1923. He played four times before moving to Exeter City for a club record fee in May 1925, being appointed Manager in February 1929. He played on until the 1930/31 season, remaining the boss until September 1935. He guided them to their highest ever League placing when they finished as runners-up in the Third Division South in 1932/33, while they also reached the FA Cup Quarter-finals for the first of only two times in their history under his stewardship.

Current double agent

Alex Inglethorpe joined Exeter from Leyton Orient in February 2000, initially on loan, netting twice in 22 outings, retiring from professional football in the summer of 2001. He was appointed boss at St James Park in October 2004, leaving in June 2006 to join Tottenham Hotspur’s coaching staff. He quit Spurs in November 2012 to take over as Reserve Team Head Coach at Melwood, being promoted to Academy Director in August 2014.

Most recently

Defender Alex Watson signed professional terms in May 1985 but made just nine first-team appearances, before joining Bournemouth for £150,000 in January 1991. He joined Exeter from Torquay United on a free transfer in July 2001. He played 51 times for the basement side before moving to nearby Dr Martens League side Taunton Town two years later.

Finnish forward Lauri Dalla Valle arrived from Joensuun Iloiset Peli-Pojat for a reported £600,000 in November 2007, signing professional terms with the reds in September 2008. He moved to Fulham in August 2010 after just one brief substitute appearance, as part of the deal that brought left-back Paul Konchesky to Anfield. He joined the Grecians on loan from the Cottagers in March 2012, failing to score in five outings.

Also up front

Scottish inside-left Andy McGuigan signed from Hibernian in May 1990 and bagged fourteen goals in 37 reds games, including five against Stoke at Anfield in January 1902, as he became the first red ever to score so many in one game. He was part of our first League title-winning side in 1901, and later returned to Anfield as a trainer, helping us to back-to-back titles in 1922 and 1923, having turned out as an amateur with Exeter in the meantime.

James Garside arrived from Accrington Stanley in 1904, but only played five games before returning to amateur football with Stanley in 1906, moving on from there to Exeter. William Hunter’s only reds game was a 2-0 defeat at Preston North End in March 1909, having signed from Airdrieonians in December 1908. He moved to his hometown club Sunderland after just two months at Anfield, later ending his career at Exeter.

Inside-forward Tommy Green signed from New Brighton in September 1901, netting once in seven outings before moving to Swindon Town in April 1903. He spent the 1909/10 season at St James Park. Tom Scott signed from Darlington in February 1925, netting four goals in eighteen games before joining Bristol City in October 1928. He joined Exeter from Norwich City in 1934, remaining there for two years until he joined Hartlepools United.

Other double agents

Right-half David McMullan signed from Belfast Distillery in October 1925, failing to score in 35 first-team games before making an audacious move to join New York Giants in August 1928, later ending his career at St. James Park.

Full-back Steve Parr made twenty appearances without notching after signing on a free transfer from Farrington Villa in May 1948. He moved to Exeter after seven years at Anfield, moving on to Rochdale at the end of 1956 to end his playing days.

What do you know about Teixeira and Ojo? Are they ready for first team football? Good enough? I can understand giving them some time as subs, but calling for them to start when we don't really know their suitablity is mad. Lallana has been totally ineffective, but even with our injuries, we should have better options than throwing youth players in.

But we don't have better options regardless of injuries. Ojo has been recalled for a reason and looked lively against Exeter surrounded by other young kids. Getting played amongst more senior players would benefit him more and take some pressure of him at least. I think a promising and exciting player given experience in a big game would be preferential to a 'totally ineffective' Lallana and might make Lallana take his place less for granted.

Ojo is going to annoy the f*ck out of people. Huge talent, probably even more than Ibe or Sterling but he disappears loads. Still can't tell if he's going to be world class or a complete waste of time.

The one thing we do know here is that Lallana is not good enough, very ineffective.

Ojo might be great, either way it would be great fun.

I went to see Teixiera for Brighton last season and he was miles better than anyone else on the pitch at that level. He's quite strong considering that he looks pretty scrawny and he reads the game well. In the game I saw, they seemed to set their team up to play the ball to him as much as possible. He was ghosting past opposition players for fun and was really good at working his way out into space when they marked him closely. He did quite a lot of unnecessary flicks and tricks and stepovers and sometimes lost the ball from trying to be too fancy, but he was always looking to make things happen for his teammates, always looking for a forward pass. Think Luis Garcia sort of thing. He got clattered a lot.

I don't know if it was a "typical" performance for him. Obviously he was playing Championship level players and his team mates were pretty average too, but it was on a good pitch and he really shone. Certainly I'd say that he deserves more game time for us based on that performance.

just what we need on this forum - a player to rip us apart arguing

Fulton is playing for the u-21's today so Bogdan swinging at his third strike then? would like Ojo to start but would agree he can be frustrating as hell to watch.nice 2-0 lead at half time and relax.
