Following in my footsteps and kids at Anfield

Recommended Posts

My son, who has just turned 16 is in England for Christmas and will be going to the Leicester game. He will be going in the car with the same people I used to go with, I may not be like many who goto games with their sons (and that's getting harder and harder to do now anyway). But it's something that gives me pleasure him doing what I did for years.

Do any of you goto the match with your child and/or did you get into match going with your father? It's something the Supporters Commitee are doing our best to reintroduce, kids at Anfield.

How are you addressing this?

My son is 17 and came to the match with me from the age of 7

But he missed half of last season and all of this

I'd imagine he'll reintroduce himself once he's at Uni

I also got my stepson in to it (and his dad)

It's not cheap, that's all I know

Yeah, I got taken by my Dad when I was about 7 and then went with him for about the next 40 years. Introduced my boys to it and took them whenever I could.

Like Molby said though, take two boys to the football with you, add on the extras and that's a wedge gone already

Match tickets prices on a uni allowance are not an option to most students. Family season tickets are probably the only realistic way that would happen.

I got into it going with my dad, who, god bless him, had no interest in football but used to give up his Saturday afternoons just to get me to the game, 'cause I was a Reds fan.

I take my two boys to all the cup games, few years back I was taking them to all games... too much money to opt into the league games too now.. Still costs a wedge like for the cups, even the yearly membership thing just to have a chance of signing up for a ticket isn't great. The anny road upper isn't the best place for the lad and dad section either I don't reckon .. get the lads back in the kop.

I think it is the perfect place for it.

Having the family section back in the Kop isn't going to be doing anything to address the s*** atmosphere I don't think. Moving it out actually made 305 better. The problem is the rest of the stand!

No your probably right, most of the kids in there are young to be fair and the setup in the upper anny is geared to under 10's I reckon, but when they reach 11 & 13 as my lads now are I think there should be other options as they want to sing and be in with more of the atmosphere.

Obviously pricing is an ongoing discussion and debate, and how we can get younger fans in is in its infancy. We have to believe we will get somewhere.

There is a s*** load of stuff on this by Spirit Of Shankly and TAW, start there.

It's not in it's infancy at all, it's something we've been acutely aware of for a generation.

With us on the SC it's new, we have made it (kids getting back to the game) a big topic this season. Ticket pricing has been ongoing for as long as I have been apart of it.

Reinventing a kids pen, Chelsea tickets, making tickets available to kids etc are all things we want. No one is stupid enough to think all will happen overnight, if at all, but we need to keep on it. And not just us, all supporters groups.

As an aside can raise an issue for me in your next meeting?

It should be easily sorted this.

Get them to play the proper Ring Of Fire before the game if it needs to be played at all and not that other s***e version that makes the whole ground cringe, it's proper wool and smalltime.

It's the small details you see.

Thanks

I will certainly get it raised. George chooses the records still doesn't he? I will ask him before the next meeting.

TBQH with you, I think your lack of knowledge about the ongoing debates and representations that have been made to the club on this very subject are a little disconcerting in terms of the Supporter's Committee

That's sound, would much rather the original.

I am well aware of these and as you know the TWG is seperate and not discussed by the SC in detail in our meetings, it was split to include some members of all parties. I would prefer it to be more inclusive, but having said that the best people are on the TWG.

The SC aim for kids is in its infancy. We are not ignoring what others have done.

The SOS (I won't get into any political debate here as if they should or shouldn't) don't have a direct avenue to the club on most matters. We do however have SOS members on the SC who bring things to the club to be discussed when we meet.

Not trying to argue or be awkward but I did only mean the SC when talking about what we want to do. And if things are done it doesn't matter who raised them originally as long as they happen.

It's a worry that it's in it's infancy is my point downunder.

Sorry, I thought you meant you were worried I wasn't aware of what was going on! This year we have a new group of people and a new way of working.

100% not knocking any previous regime but the make up of our group has changed dramaticaly and a different focus is in place.

To me and I think many at the game, the match v Man Utd last season was a real eye opener. It was not what we all want the utd game to be like, and a real effort has to be made to get 'real' fans back in and ensure the next generation can continue it.

I used to say modern football is rubbish, but as my son says its not rubbish - it's different! And he is right, it's more popular than ever but we need to do what we can to keep, hold of the bits we love, and that is a passionate loud stadium.

But isn't there an efficiency issue here? By that I mean international members of the supporter's committee being the conduit for issues that only effect regular match-goers? I'm a fairly irregular attendee, 7-8 games a season maybe, but I am in and around people who are heavily involved, yet I still don't feel like I am in full grasp of the required context for many of these issues - surely some information gets lost along the way?

It may just be that you're the only member of said supporter's committee we hear from, but it feels like those on it should have an area of expertise. I can see why it sticks in the craw of many fans.

I am the only SC member on this forum I think, and I am also the only international member now.

With all committees everyone has specialist areas. The OLSC network, and general fans queries from overseas is what I deal with daily. I do admit the credit system for getting tickets I am not an expert in so I have minimal Input when the deficiencies are discussed. I think we have all fans covered and can try and help everyone.

My experience as a previous regular match goer, season ticket holder etc does mean I am not like many from overseas who attend games, maybe one or two in their lifetime. I want to help fans from other countries enjoy the game, but I don't want to see more and more coming at the expense of locals. We are now a brand, and if we want to compete we need the corporate money and some international visitors. It's the way the game has evolved.

We are all elected so you would hope the best person for the role is always the one elected.

I always say, I am more than happy to pass on any query given to me on here to the club, even if it's not under my constituency I will pass it to the relevant person(s) and follow through for you. I think all the big forums should have at least one of us on it to help where we can if need be.

Are you talking about the instrumental version I use as filler between Peter reading the teams out and the players coming out of the tunnel?

Ive been to the match with my best mate about 10-15 times in my life.

The rest of the time I've been on my own or when I've scored a freebie. Its too f***ing expensive
