Gethin Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Jimmy Hill RIPhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35141430
dorgie Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I liked him too. Great nostalgic memories from MOTD in the 70s and 80s. He was presenting it when we ruled the world. Massively innovative in the game too, even if the changes weren't always to everyones liking. RIP Jimmy.
Swipe Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Match of the Day was such an unmissable fixture back when he was on it when I was a kid.
Dan Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Never realised how influential he was on the game.
Chewie Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 still have a memory of him congratulating a ball girl at Blackburn for getting the ball back to Liverpool quickly in the last minute of the game in the 80s when they were in the old second division. We were up in the last third and from that throw in scored an equaliser.. apparently it made her life miserable for a day or two in Blackburn... weird flashback.. RIP Jimmy hill, massive influence on the game worldwide..
Billy Talbot Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Will miss spotting him in Viz. RIP Jimmy.
Gravy Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I saw him run the line at Arsenal back in 72??? When the linesman got injured and they had to call out in the frown for a linesman. How football has changed Couldn't help but like him and respect him for what he did Would be nice to think the PFA would do something for him. Unlikely though
downunder Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Next week all players and fans should stroke their chin for a minute as a mark of respect, instead of a minute's silence or applause.
yellow jumper Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Never realised how influential he was on the game. yeah, there was that period in the 90s when i was watching MOTD when there was an element of him just being seen as cumudgeon/figure of fun. maybe it was just a kid's eyes. but shame really given how influential he'd been. hungover, but got a bit emotional watching the tribute on MOTD this morning.
Murphman Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 He was a decent striker too, banged in plenty for Fulham where he was known as 'The Rabbi'. I liked him, RIP Jimmy Hill.
Cam Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Next week all players and fans should stroke their chin for a minute as a mark of respect, instead of a minute's silence or applause.I like this innovative mark of respect. What would you suggest we do when Jenna Jameson dies?
Hassony Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I like this innovative mark of respect. What would you suggest we do when Jenna Jameson dies? stroke their chin?
New York Red Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Will miss spotting him in Viz. RIP Jimmy. We'll still see him. Cartoons are ageless.

Houghton I think, who crossed for the goal. yeah, there was that period in the 90s when i was watching MOTD when there was an element of him just being seen as cumudgeon/figure of fun. maybe it was just a kid's eyes. but shame really given how influential he'd been. hungover, but got a bit emotional watching the tribute on MOTD this morning. Yeah he became a bit of a naff figure. Got lumped in with Brooking for sitting on the fence too I think. Someone retweeted a guardian piece from a few months back about his wife talking about life with Alzheimer's. Really sad. A mean, horrible disease. Edited December 20, 2015 by Swipe

Ahhh, those were the days right mate? Albert Johanneson was called Sooty wasn't he? Edited December 21, 2015 by New York Red
Billy Dane Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 A great character and as others have said, a big influence on the game in this country. RIP
New York Red Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Amazing all of the stuff he did actually. He was a real visionary in many respects.
Leo No.8 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 (edited) RIP Jimmy, a really influential figure in the game. Did some brilliant things. Edited December 23, 2015 by Leo No.8
