Liverpool Players and the media

Sorry for the rant but I really wish the club would start knocking player/staff interviews in the media on the head.

In the last couple of days there have been interviews with Ibe, Coutinho, Mignolet, Bogdan and also one of the coaches.

We do too much talking in the media.

I know there is an appetite for this stuff but I think it would serve our players and the club better to concentrate on improving their performances as individuals and as a team.

We seem to get a few decent results and then there is barrage of interviews. We should do our talking on the pitch.

One of my favourite Liverpool memes is the player who keeps doing interviews to tell us how good he's going to be when he's settled down.

Kewell > Kuyt > Downing > Lallana

Kuyt does not belong there.

Kuyt does not belong there.

I realise he doesn't in terms of eventual performance, but he was one of those for a while. He was constantly on the offal telling us how we were about to see the real him.

That we actually did is testament to the man, and his balls.

On board with this.

"We have to improve".

"We know what we have to do"

"The fans will soon see the real me".

Hate it.

If they weren't talking to the media people would then complain about the club being remote and aloof from the fans and how the ordinary fan is being forced out of the game. Can't win whatever they do.

That's not what would be forcing the ordinary fan out of the game. Anyone arguing that is an idiot.

Anyway, whatever we think of these mind numbing interviews, they are here to stay. There's an audience for it and a few quid to be made.

Primarily people who don't get to go to matches, I'd imagine.

I can't speak for everyone else who lives 4000 miles away from Anfield, but I'm not a member of the target audience as far as I am aware because I can't imagine anybody's opinion on anything I'd like to hear less than a professional footballer.

I live about 4,000 miles away too, and I thoroughly agree with you. But I'd imagine there are plenty who eat up every little morsel they can.

Most fans want to 'hear' from the players.

Most fans aren't the ones who go on forums as well. I couldn't care if they do the interviews or not, I don't watch them - but my son (15) loves watching anything and everything LFC related.

I remember getting dead excited by it. Interviews on football focus were a real treat.

Now I don't bother at all. A mixture of becoming too old and cynical and the quality and quantity of interviews and such. They all say the same thing now anyway.

This is just a consequence of how much TV & online coverage there is nowadays.

Even if the players only spoke to the newspapers, we'd still hear all about it thanks to Twitter. Tis the modern world.

Yeah that's true.

I think more would be interested (if not excited perhaps) if the interviews didn't contain the same old cliches and nonsense.

For example, those of us who aren't particularly interested in what Lallana has to say in his latest sound bite probably felt differently with all those Klopp interviews. Because it was something different from the usual spiel.
