I agree with Case to a degree, but I wouldn't change the defense they are improving a bit so I would try to keep that cohesion growing.

Give Firmino and Benteke the starts and let them get a good 65 mins or Coutinho and Origi could come on from the bench to freshen up the attack later in the game, that way we go with a strong line up but still try to keep them guys fresh for Chelsea.

I'd play all the kids. You know it's going to go to extra-time.

I think we have some very good kids coming through but I don't think it would be in our interest in throwing them all into this one.

Double Agents

YNWA looks back at the careers of some of those who have represented both the Cherries and the reds in advance of our Capital One Cup Fourth Round encounter in L4 on Wednesday.

Current double agents

Adam Lallana signed from Southampton for £23m in July 2014, so far notching eight times in 51 outings. He began his youth career with Bournemouth, moving on to Southampton’s Academy in 2000 when aged just twelve, paying a total of £18,000 in compensation. He joined the Cherries on loan in October 2007, failing to score in four games.

Danny Ings arrived from Burnley last July for a few to be set by a transfer tribunal, bagging three goals in eight games before being struck down by serious injury. He made his professional debut for Bournemouth in October 2009, moving to Burnley for £1m in August 2011 after eight strikes in thirty games for the Cherries.

Midfield stars

Ex-reds midfield dynamo Jimmy Case joined Third Division Bournemouth from Southampton on a free transfer in July 1991. He was a virtual ever-present in his one season with the Cherries, before joining Halifax Town on a free transfer in May 1992 after two goals in fifty games. He had signed from South Liverpool for a bargain £500 in May 1973 and bagged 46 goals in 269 reds games, helping us to claim three European Cups, four League titles, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, League Cup and three FA Charity Shields, before joining Brighton & Hove Albion for £350,000 in August 1981.

Jamie Redknapp signed from Bournemouth for £350,000 in January 1991, going on to strike 41 times in 308 first-team appearances. Although he only won one winners’ medal in his time at Anfield, the Coca Cola Cup in 1995, he was a popular member of the squad, and was club captain during the historic treble season eight years ago, going up to lift the FA Cup at the Millennium Stadium with Robbie Fowler. He moved on to Tottenham Hotspur in a free transfer in April 2002, and retired from football in the summer of 2005 after a brief spell at Southampton. He is now a regular pundit for Sky Sports. He had started out as a schoolboy at Tottenham Hotspur, but began his career with the Cherries in 1989, aged sixteen, signing pro terms in June 1990. He played thirteen senior games under the management of his dad Harry before Kenny Dalglish made his move.

Nigel Spackman signed for Bournemouth from Andover in May 1980 on a free transfer. He played 131 times for his first professional club, bagging ten goals as they were promoted to the Third Division in his second season. He then moved to Chelsea for £35,000 in the summer of 1983. He left Stamford Bridge for Anfield for a £400,000 fee in February 1987. Among his finest appearances in a red shirt were his debut as a sub in the 1987 Littlewoods Cup Semi-final win over Southampton, and the 5-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest in April 1988 as he helped us to clinch the title that season. He never scored for us in his 63 first-team games, although he did hit the post twice in our 1-0 defeat of Manchester United in September 1988.

Sir Matt

Right-half Sir Matt Busby joined the reds from Manchester City for £8,000 in March 1936, making 122 appearances for us, many as captain, notching three times. Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic was one of several clubs he guested with during the war. He was appointed as coach and Assistant Manager to George Kay at Anfield in May 1944, but he was released by the club the following February after disagreements with the board, taking over as Manager of Manchester United a few days later.

Up front

Louis Bimpson signed from Burscough on a free transfer in January 1953. He scored 39 goals in his 102 first-team appearances, before joining Blackburn Rovers in November 1959. He left Ewood Park for Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1961, moving on again to Rochdale later that year after one goal in eleven League matches. Inside-forward Eric Anderson signed pro terms in December 1951 and netted 22 times in 76 games before joining Barnsley in July 1957. He left Oakwell to sign for Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1959 before joining Macclesfield Town a year later.

Scottish forward Ted MacDougall signed pro terms on his nineteenth birthday in 1966 but never made our first-team, moving on to York City for £5,000 in 1967. He left the Minstermen to join the Cherries in the summer of 1969 for £10,000. He struck a record nine goals in an FA Cup tie, in an 11-0 First Round thumping of Margate in November 1971, scoring 126 goals in just 165 appearances for the Cherries overall before being sold to Manchester United for £200,000 in September 1972. He returned to Bournemouth in November 1978, on a free transfer from Southampton. He scored sixteen times in 52 League games in this second spell before joining Blackpool as Player/Coach in February 1980.

Finnish forward Lauri Dalla Valle joined the Cherries on loan from Fulham in March 2011, netting twice in eight outings. He came to Anfield from Joensuun Iloiset Peli-Pojat for a reported £600,000 in November 2007, signing professional terms with the reds in September 2008. He moved to Fulham in August 2010 after just one brief substitute appearance, as part of the deal that brought left-back Paul Konchesky to Anfield. Colin Russell only ever tasted half an hour of first team action for the reds, coming on for Howard Gayle in a home League defeat to Sunderland in May 1981. He left for Huddersfield Town in 1982, moving on to Bournemouth two years later where he netted 21 times in 87 games, before joining Doncaster Rovers in 1986.

After becoming a regular in the reserves, Conal Platt was released by the reds, signing for Bournemouth in May 2006. However, he only made one senior appearance before moving to Weymouth a year later. Reserves forward Craig Lindfield joined Bournemouth on loan in August 2008. He struck once in five outings for the Cherries. He had scored in his first game with the senior side, the only goal of a friendly win at Crewe Alexandra in July 2006, but failed to make a first-class appearance for the reds despite heavily featuring in two victorious FA Youth Cup campaigns and was released in August 2009.

Other double agents

Keeper David James signed from Watford for £1m in July 1992, making 277 appearances before being sold to Aston Villa for £1.7m in June 1999, having helped us to claim the League Cup in 1995 and FA Cup Final the following year. He signed for Bournemouth in September 2012. He stayed until the following March, playing nineteen times for the Cherries.

Sean O’Driscoll joined Bournemouth from Fulham in 1984, making a then club record 423 League appearances before moving onto the coaching staff in 1995. He was appointed Manager in August 2000, gaining promotion via the Third Division play-offs in May 2003, moving on to Doncaster Rovers in September 2006. He was appointed Assistant Manager at Anfield last July, leaving his post following Brendan Rodgers’ sacking earlier this month.

Doug Livermore signed from Bolton Wanderers in November 1965 and made just eighteen appearances in our midfield before joining Norwich City in November 1970, but he returned to Anfield as Assistant Manager in 1994. He played ten games on loan with Bournemouth in 1975 before moving on to Cardiff City that August. Left-back Phil Ferns struck once in 28 reds games after signing on at Anfield in September 1957. He made enough appearances in 1963/64 to claim a League title medal but left for Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in August 1965, moving on to Mansfield Town in 1966 after 46 League outings.

Defender Alex Watson left Anfield to join Bournemouth for £150,000 in January 1991 after just nine first-team appearances, including being on the winning side in the FA Charity Shield in 1988. He is the brother of fellow former reserve Dave Watson, who found greater fame across Stanley Park. He netted seven times in 182 outings before moving to Torquay United in November 1995 for £50,000. Left-winger Ron Smith signed amateur terms with the reds in 1955, turning professional two years later. However, he moved on to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1959, having failed to break through to the first team.

Down Memory Lane

YNWA takes a look back at all our previous meetings as we prepare to face Bournemouth on Wednesday for only the ninth time ever. We have so far won six and drawn two of our previous encounters.

Most recently

We won our only ever League meeting 1-0 at Anfield in August, with Christian Benteke netting his first reds goal, despite Philippe Coutinho being offside. James Milner took over the captain’s armband for the first time when Jorden Henderson went off injured. We won in the Capital One Cup Fifth Round 3-1 last December thanks to a Raheem Sterling brace and Lazar Marković’s first reds goal, with ex-Evertonian Dan Gosling on target for the home side.

We won an FA Cup Fourth Round tie 2-0 at the Goldsands Stadium in January 2014, thanks to goals from Victor Moses and Daniel Sturridge, with Luis Suárez setting them both up. We took part in a friendly at Bournemouth in February 2000 to commemorate the Cherries’ centenary year. Richie Partridge, Patrik Berger, Danny Murphy and Titi Camara all netted in our 4-0 win.

Harry at the treble

We first faced Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, as they were then known, in an FA Cup Third Round tie at Dean Court in January 1927. Frank Taylor put the home side in front after the break, but Gordon Hodgson nabbed a late leveller. Harry ‘Smiler’ Chambers scored a hat-trick in the Anfield replay four days later after Fred Hopkin had opened the scoring, with Ronnie Eyre notching for the visitors as we won 4-1. We went on to be knocked out at Arsenal in the Fifth Round.

A milestone for Sir Roger

Roger Hunt played his 400th reds game as we were held to a goalless draw in another Third Round tie at Dean Court. We won the replay 4-1 three days later, eventually bowing out to West Bromwich Albion in the Sixth Round. Tony Hateley, Peter Thompson, Roger Hunt and Chris Lawler all netted before Emlyn Hughes put through his own net.

Knew Matt Busby played for us, didn't realise he was assistant manager as well. Left wondering what would have happened if there hadn't been disagreements with the board. Murph probably remembers what they fell out over.

Sakho needs a rest too. It's Lovren time. *gulps*

Origi or Sinclair with Benteke on bench.

Allen for Can as well.

f*** me. Our options are so poor.

like that he's been fairly consistent with his selections, just became a muddle of options by the end of rodger's time. but you'd think there'd have to be a few more changes for this just from a fitness point of view.

Play kids, save the oldies for Chelsea.

I totally agree. Not just to have them rested up a bit, but so they can prepare all week for Chelsea, focus solely on Klopp's training methods. Resting them all basically gives us 2 extra days of training, and we look like we need it right now.

Let Pep train the kids for Bournemouth, if we go out we go out.

Benteke hasn't started a game in 5 weeks. He can start this one.

I'd like to see Lallana relegated to the bench soon.

I'd go

Bogdan

Randall

Lovren

Sahko

Moreno

Allen

Can

Ibe

Firmino

Origi

Benteke

Then I'd bring in Lucas, Milner, Coutinho , Clynne, Skrtel and Mignolet against Chelsea.

1 win in the last 12, we're all desperate for a win so we need to play a strong team to give ourselves the best chance of that.

Clyne - Skrtel Sakho - Moreno

--- Can -- Allen -- Coutinho ---

-- Milner -- Benteke -- Firmino --

Subs: Bogdan, Joao Carlos, Lallana, Origi, Ibe, Lucas, Kolo
