Need some forum help:

Moved into our place a couple of years ago, where one of the boundaries is fenced off and the neighbour has lined his side of teh garden with some f***-off huge conifer trees. They must be more than 10 metres tall. As this is the north facing side of the garden, it doesn't cause a huge problem in terms of sunlight but the branches are overhanging quite a bit and the tree roots are taking all of the moisture out of the bedding and lawn in my garden.

So, here's the question: Who should cover the cost of trimming back the trees?

I've never spoken to the neighbour (their house sits on a different street and we've never had reason to speak) so I did not want to just head over and demand that he trim back the trees. Instead, I was going to pay to have it done. However, having got some quotes for the work (ranging from £2000 to £4000), I'm thinking "f*** that" if it's not my responsibility...
