Mike Edwards, Kopp-blocker extraordinaire

 

He's our head of performance analysis or something but due to a good performance when he met Henry, clutching a big dossier, he is installed in the inner circle

 

Think of him as a really s*** Thomas Cromwell

 

And he is the man convincing FSG not to hire Klopp

Klopp is ready to come tomorrow

 

The reasons are obvious: he's an incompetent buffoon and a spoofer who would soon be sacked if Klopp came, along with other traitors within, obv

 

Of course, FSG are pandering to his s*** but the individual currently leading the anti-Klopp campaign is Edwards

Michael Edwards

Liverpool’s current director of technical performance is the least well known face on the transfer committee but Edwards’ influence has increased since he was brought to Anfield during Damien Comolli’s reign as director of football. He had previously worked alongside Comolli at Tottenham.

Edwards graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in business management and informatics before putting his IT knowledge to use in the world of football.

He was Portsmouth’s head of performance analysis from 2003 to 2009 before moving to London to carry out the same role for Spurs. Comolli was suitably impressed with his work that he offered him a job with Liverpool in 2011.

Initially, he was head of analytics – poring over the mass of data Premier League clubs gather on players in every match and providing reports.

Once Comolli left in 2012, Edwards took on greater responsibility and was made head of performance and analysis. He’s well regarded by FSG and since June 2013 he’s been director of technical performance.

The nod to his expertise tallies with John W Henry’s admiration for the ‘Moneyball’ philosophy where statistical analysis is used to try to find value in the transfer market.

Edwards assesses data from leagues across the world and is involved in the drawing up of scouting assignments.

haha yeah there will have been some deep analysis gone into all this, here's us assuming it's just fellas being stupid and trying to keep their massive salaries but it'll really be down to excellent business management that we are as crap or as good as when they took over

Jurgen Klopp is available and would jump at the chance of coming in and managing LFC tomorrow... Jurgen f***ing Klopp! The place would be bouncing absolutely f***ing bouncing with his big German grin taking on allsorts.

 

Mike Edwards is preventing the above happening, who is he to have such influence? The club is a shambles.

I had an odd, random thought about all of this stats stuff the other day, and extrapolated it to the following nightmarish ultimate statistically driven business management scenario.

 

Say our stats man looks at what inputs into success and creates a formula that on average the winning teams stats are made up of:

 

Defenses that only allow 8 chances at goal per game

Defenses that have a successful tackle % of 78%

Defenses that limit goal opportunities / shots to within an average 15.3 yards from goal

Defense only needs to win 46% of aerial duels

Central midfield have to win the ball within 14.7 seconds of conceding possession.

Midfield have to recycle the ball within 3.8 seconds of receiving the ball.

Assists from midfielders are from passes averaging minimum 28 yards in length.

Assists from midfielders are from within 2.3 seconds of obtaining possession.

Successful dribble distance is 24 yards in length and possession held for 4.9 seconds before releasing the ball

 

And so on

 

Then what you have is a wage model based upon a basic with a win / points bonus but also with players individually receiving incremental bonuses based upon you achieving your own statistical goals for your role within a match. So if you achieve the statistical inputs that indicate increased win success you get paid. Everyone does this and we should win. So say the statistics.

 

Its a f***ing horrible thought isn't it, but I really wouldn't put it past us to lean this way in some form or other.

this has almost definitely happened

 

but they just keep sending memos to Rodgers as there isn't the time or facilities to all sit down together

whats SOS view of all this shoite going on, or are they all happy with Rodgers?

tbf it's not for SOS to protest against any particular manager

 

it's quite hard to protest against FSG at all without highlighting individual issues eg ticketing

Baseball in other words.

 

Football however seems to be a bit more complicated seeing as the ball is in play virtually all the time and everyone's capacity to swing a leg at it counts all the feckin time so what you've got is not only an athlete that sticks to a form and makes quick split decisions on the spin of an individual ball but has to decide he can compete and win non-stop for ninety odd minutes. That takes a stronger personality than the others have on the other team and a belief in the narrative that has been brainwashed into him and his mates.

 

Your scenario would only attract a manager who had some facile belief that x amount of possession will bring y amount of points a season while the best players do the Hoffmanns on him.
