Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say 'We're Liverpool'.-Bill Shankly

I've seen him misquoted on here this morning, can you imagine, a famous Shankly quote f*cked up? I've also been reminded of that c*nt Hodgson refering to him as 'Bill' as if they were peers and equals. My adulation of and admiration for this man knows no bounds and both of these events annoyed me intensely.

The misquote was deliberate to reaffirm Shankly's own point.

He didn't consider himself a messiah you know.

Just a very naughty boy.

Not sure people like him even exist these days. That kind of ambition on behalf of other people was rare back then too I suppose. More's the pity.

Loved that man. He's why Liverpool are my team.

There I saw him, on Match of the Dsy, 1968, right after an evening of playing hobbsies in the gutter and a supper of bread and dripping...

The misquote was a ham-fisted attempt to reaffirm Shankly's point - a point that belongs in its own time and has little, if any, relevance in the modern game.
