Need to cut loose and put in a performance. Can't see it happening though. I'd go:

Mignolet, Clyne, Sakho, Skrtel, Moreno, Lucas, Milner, Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke, Ings and play a diamond. Milner on the right and Coutinho on the left and Firmino at the apex.

4-3-3 needs to be f***ed off because it's been a 4-5-1.

Apparently Sturridge is in contention for a role in this match and their monitoring Henderson for it too.

We've now got 4 home games in a row (in all competitions) and all are eminently winnable.

Amen to that, that would be my team, although I'd put Gomez in for Srktel and partner him with Sakho.

Get beat in this and it could be the end for Rodgers like.

Have they got the same goalie as the other games? Give out Suarez masks to all our lads and have them run like the clappers at him and shoot and cross on sight like we love a game of football. That's it tell them it's headers and volleys with a bag of chewits for the best goal.

Down Memory Lane

YNWA takes a look back at previous memorable home League meetings as we prepare to entertain Norwich City for the 27th time in the League on Sunday. We have a very good record against them at home, having won seventeen, drawn five and been beaten four times.

Luis and Dan again

Luis Suárez scored four sublime goals as we triumphed 5-1 in December 2013, his third hat-trick against the Canaries, becoming the first reds player to score three trebles against the same team. His third goal was his fiftieth League strike for the club, in his 86th Premiership game. He also set up Raheem Sterling for our fifth after Bradley Johnson had netted a late consolation.

New signing Daniel Sturridge scored in his third consecutive reds game as we triumphed 5-0 eleven months earlier, becoming the first red to do so in his first three games since Ray Kennedy in September 1974. Jordan Henderson, Luis Suárez and Steven Gerrard also netted, with Ryan Bennett putting through his own net.

Also recently

We were held to a 1-1 draw in October 2011. Ex-Canary Craig Bellamy opened the scoring on the stroke of half time, but Grant Holt equalised after an hour. Luis Suárez had eleven shots on goal as we failed to make our domination count. Dietmar Hamann played his 150th League game for the reds in September 2004, while Djimi Traoré made his fiftieth League appearance as we won 3-0, with the goals coming from Milan Baroš, Luis García and Djibril Cissé. Robbie Fowler struck twice as we won 4-0 in January 1995 to bring us to a maximum twelve points over the festive period, to add to goals from John Scales and Ian Rush.

Goss makes history

Jeremy Goss became the last player to score in front of the standing Kop as we lost 1-0 on the final day for the famous old terrace in April 1994. Goss said: “I’ve put that day down as the proudest moment of my footballing career.” The very last person to score was actually Kopite John Garner who took to the field in an odd outfit that incorporated a fez, dodging stewards and coppers to net in front of those left long after the match had ended.

Over the bar

Norwich City were awarded the first Premier League penalty against us in October 1992, but Mark Bowen blazed the ball high into the Kop. Ian Butterworth scored for the visitors in the first minute with a goal that went in via Mike Marsh, Bruce Grobbelaar and the crossbar! However, we went on to win the game 4-1, with Michael Thomas, Don Hutchison and birthday boy David Burrows on target before Mark Walters converted from the spot.

Reds firsts

Graeme Souness took charge of his first game as reds Manager in April 1991, with goals from John Barnes, Ray Houghton and Ian Rush sending us on our way to a 3-0 victory. New £200,000 record signing David Johnson made his reds bow in our 1-0 win in August 1976, with Steve Heighway on target. Bob Paisley was presented with the Manager of the Year award from the previous season before the match.

We changed our usual routine by not staying overnight in a hotel before our meeting in November 1975, but returned to the usual routine after we lost 3-1, with Emlyn Hughes grabbing our late consolation. Ex-reds reserve Ted MacDougall scored, with World Cup winner Martin Peters bagging one of his fourteen goals against the reds and Colin Suggett netting one of his four past us. This was one of just eleven home League defeats we suffered throughout the whole of the 1970’s.

Hat-tricks

In September 1989, Bryan Gunn kept his third successive Anfield clean sheet as we were held to a goalless draw. Paul Walsh scored a hat-trick, including a penalty, as we won 6-2 in November 1986, with Ian Rush adding a brace and Steve Nicol also on target, with ex-red David Hodgson and Mike Phelan netting for the visitors. Kenny Dalglish came off the bench to replace Nicol, so making his 500th reds appearance. Graham Benstead was replaced in the City goal by Bryan Gunn following this game.

Big wins

Both Alan and Ray Kennedy scored as we thumped the Canaries 6-0 in February 1979 despite their five-man defence, our best ever victory over them. Strike partners Kenny Dalglish and David Johnson each added a brace. Ian Rush struck twice in January 1985 as we won 4-0 to help relegate the Canaries, with John Wark and Kenny Dalglish also scoring. There was only one goal on the scoreboard until the final ten minutes.

Other memorable meetings

Kenny Dalglish played his 400th reds game in May 1984 as we were held to a 1-1 draw, having won the League three days before at Notts County. Ian Rush grabbed our goal. We lost 2-0 in April 1983 as Norwich became the first side to take all six points off us after the introduction of three points for a win. We still claimed the title, while City finished fourteenth. Mark Lawrenson put through his own net before Martin O’Neill doubled the visitors’ lead from distance. Bob Paisley had received his 21st Bell’s managerial award prior to kick-off.

Centre-half Larry Lloyd played his final reds game in February 1974, with substitute Peter Cormack nabbing the only goal in the final minute. We won 3-1 in March 1973 with our goals coming from Chris Lawler, Emlyn Hughes and Brian Hall. Neil Mellor’s dad Ian scored for the visitors. In January 1962, we saw off Norwich by the odd goal in nine on our way to the Second Division championship. Alan A’Court netted in addition to braces from both Jimmy Melia and Roger Hunt. Terry Allcock bagged a treble for the Canaries, the most recent player to score a hat-trick at Anfield and still end up on the losing side, with Jimmy Conway also on the scoresheet. Norwich’s first League visit to Anfield in November 1960 resulted in a 2-1 reds win, with Roger Hunt and Jimmy Harrower netting.

Double Agents

In advance of our meeting with the Canaries at Anfield on Sunday, YNWA looks back at the careers of some of those who have represented both the reds and Norwich City.

Current double agents

Defender Andre Wisdom joined the reds from Bradford City in January 2008, so far making 22 first-team appearances, netting on his debut at BSC Young Boys in September 2013. He signed a new four-year contract with the reds last May but joined Norwich on loan in July, his third temporary switch from Anfield. He has made three appearances so far this campaign.

Barry Hunter joined the reds as Chief Scout in September 2012. He was in the same role at Norwich from June 2008, moving on to Manchester City the following January.

Striking stars

David Fairclough bagged 55 goals in 154 reds games, two-fifths of them as a substitute. The bionic carrot helped us to three League titles, European Cup, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and two League Cups in his nine years at Anfield. He joined the Canaries in March 1985 after a spell with Luzern in Switzerland, but only played twice in just five months at Carrow Road, before he moved on again to Oldham Athletic. Ted MacDougall never made our first-team, and joined Norwich from West Ham United for £140,000 in December 1973. He was top scorer for three seasons in a row, bagging 66 goals in 138 games for the Canaries and helping them to promotion and the League Cup Final in 1975.

Craig Bellamy arrived from Blackburn Rovers for £6m in June 2006 with his one season in L4 that time only being a partial success. He grabbed nine goals in 42 games, with his finest moment coming in the Camp Nou as he scored a crucial goal in our 2-1 victory to help us progress towards Athens. He was sold to West Ham United for £7.5m in July 2007, still the record fee paid by the Irons. He returned to L4 on a free transfer from Manchester City in August 2011, netting another nine times in his 37 outings before joining hometown club Cardiff City for a free a year later. He had struck 34 times in 91 games for the Canaries, his first professional club, before joining Coventry City for £6.5m in August 2000.

David Hodgson only spent two years with the reds, after switching from Middlesbrough in August 1982 for £450,000. He never fully established himself in his two years at Anfield, scoring ten times in 49 appearances, although he did claim a League championship medal before he left for Sunderland for £125,000, playing against the Canaries in the 1985 Milk Cup Final. He joined Norwich from the Wearsiders, netting four times in nine games, although three of these came in a League Cup tie against Millwall.

Peter Crouch joined Norwich City on loan from Aston Villa in September 2003. He struck four times in fifteen games for the Canaries as they headed towards the First Division title. He arrived at Anfield for £7m in July 2005 after a successful season with Southampton, when he had bagged sixteen goals in 33 games as the Saints were relegated. He struck 42 times in 134 reds games, despite not notching in his first nineteen outings, helping us to claim the FA Cup and FA Community Shield, but was sold to Portsmouth for a fee of up to £11m in July 2008.

Also up front

Left-winger Alan A’Court signed from Prescot Cables in September 1952 and scored 63 times in 381 reds games, helping us to the Second Division title in 1962, and representing England at the 1958 World Cup in his time at Anfield. He ended his career as Player/Coach at Carrow Road, remaining on the staff of the Second Division outfit for three years.

Outside-left Hugh McQueen joined from Leith Athletic in October 1892. He made 61 reds appearances, bagging eighteen goals, helping us to the Lancashire League and Second Division titles in successive seasons in the early 1890’s. He later became a Trainer for the Canaries, and died in Norwich in April 1944. Inside-forward Arthur Metcalf signed from Newcastle United for £150 in May 1912, netting 28 times in 63 reds games before the First World War, playing in every position on the park and featuring in our first FA Cup Final. Norwich was his final club as a player, playing just twice.

Former reserves forward Paul Dalglish, King Kenny’s son, joined Norwich City on loan from Newcastle United in March 1999, before signing permanently in May of the same year. He only bagged two goals in a total of 48 games for the Canaries, staying there for three years. Inside-right Tom Scott signed for the reds from Darlington in February 1925, scoring four times in eighteen games. He later moved to Carrow Road from Preston North End in June 1932, striking 26 times in 53 League outings.

At the back

Centre-back Dave Watson left Anfield in November 1980 after just twelve reserves games for Carrow Road for a £50,000 fee that rose to £200,000. He made 256 first-team appearances for Norwich, leading them to the Milk Cup in 1985 and the Second Division title a year later. He remained a Canary until August 1986, when he returned to Merseyside to sign for Everton for a club record £1.23m. Tom ‘Tiny’ Bradshaw arrived from Bury for £8,000 in January 1930. He notched four times in 291 reds appearances at centre-half, and was one of the famous ‘Wembley wizards’ of 1928, as he won his only Scotland cap in their 5-1 mauling of England at Wembley. He later became Chief Scout with Norwich. American centre-back Zak Whitbread made just seven senior appearances in the cups, and was sold to Millwall for £200,000 in June 2006 after a season-long loan spell at The New Den. He moved from there to Carrow Road in January 2010, netting once in 48 outings before joining Leicester City on a free transfer in July 2012.

Daniel Sánchez Ayala made his senior debut as substitute in our 2-1 League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in August 2009, and made his first start as we thumped Stoke City 4-0 at Anfield three days later. He played five reds games, and was sold to Norwich City for £850,000 in August 2011. He only made ten appearances, suffering a series of injuries, joining Middlesbrough for a reported £350,000 in January 2014 after a successful loan spell on Teesside.

Scottish centre-half Norman Low only played thirteen reds games after signing from Newcastle United in October 1933, deputising for fellow double agent Tom Bradshaw. He played 163 times for Norwich after signing on at the end of the Second World War. He became Player/Manager in 1950, remaining in the hot seat until he was surprisingly sacked in 1955. Jon Otsemobor joined Norwich City on a free transfer from Crewe Alexandra in June 2007. He left Carrow Road on another free in January 2010, having netted twice in 104 games. He had played just six first-team games for the reds, before joining Rotherham United in July 2005. Ex-reds goalkeeping coach Joe Corrigan played three games on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for Norwich during 1984/85.

On loan

Midfield maestro Jan Mølby joined the Canaries on loan in November 1995 as his reds career was winding down, scoring once in five appearances while in East Anglia, under the management of Gary Megson. He had arrived at Anfield from Ajax for £225,000 in August 1984, going on to net 61 times in 292 reds appearances, including a remarkable forty of his 42 attempted spot-kicks. He won three League titles and two FA Cups during his time with the reds. Dani Pacheco joined the Canaries on loan in March 2011, netting twice in six outings. He arrived at Anfield from Barcelona in July 2007 but failed to score in seventeen senior appearances, moving on permanently to AD Alcorcón in September 2013.

Bill Shankly guested for Norwich during the Second World War. Bootle-born centre-half Mark Seagraves joined Norwich on loan in November 1986, playing just three times before returning to our reserves. This came after both of his only reds games, earlier that year. Nicky Tanner spent March 1990 on loan with Norwich, helping them to keep four clean sheets in his six first-team appearances. He had joined the reds from Bristol Rovers for £20,000 in August 1988 and made a total of 59 appearances for the reds under Graeme Souness, netting his only goal at Goodison Park in December 1991.

Other double agents

Midfielder Doug Livermore signed from Bolton Wanderers in November 1965, making just eighteen first-team appearances before moving to Norwich in November 1970. He starred in their Second Division title win in 1972 as well as playing in the 1973 League Cup Final. He bagged six goals in 139 games for the Canaries. He then returned to Carrow Road as Reserve Team Manager in August 1980, staying for a year. He returned to Anfield to become Assistant Manager under Roy Evans in 1994, moving back to East Anglia for a third time in June 1999 as number two to Bruce Rioch when Gérard Houllier arrived at Anfield. He remained at Carrow Road until February 2007 as they were promoted to the Premiership and were then relegated.

Liverpool-born forward Mike Sheron joined the Canaries from Manchester City for £1m in August 1994, but he struggled with injury at Carrow Road, only managing to net seven times in 38 games before joining Stoke City in October 1995 in a swap deal. He coached the Under-13’s at the Academy in Kirkby between July 2011 and August 2013, and is now Academy Head Coach with Rotherham United.

Soz man . I meant I wanted the whole 11 :-)

Haha, I don't know yet. All I've been told so far is Sakho starts, Sturridge bench.

Might hear more tonight, if not, should know tomorrow. Will post it when I do.

I know Suarez has been brilliant for Barcelona, but has he been as brilliant for them as he was for us, or has his game changed due to having Messi and Neymar alongside him?

I think he just doesn't stand out as much at Barcelona. The quality bar is higher across the pitch. Hes still a huge success there and will be at whatever club he goes to. Hes a rare breed. The most impressive thing is just how little he gets injured... Bearing in mind how much of a marked man he is
