Molby Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I've wisely decided to be away for this one So that's me sorted How about you lads? Is everyone confident? They look like they are improving (Swansea game starts soon) while we are going down the toilet and have Coutinho missing All of which is a worry
smithdown Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 fast forward past all the gloom to a rallying point 7 from 15 won't do, not this year, someone else will need the chance8 is minimum four years in Be strong and get the draw. Take the chance if it comes, someone can make themselves a Murphy but if not don't f*cking lose this. Just don't.
Molby Posted August 30, 2015 Author Posted August 30, 2015 I think every single manager can go to away games and set out to be really hard to beatPark the bus Except Rodgers and Wenger When we defend well we don't smotherRafa's teams smothered We win it back quickly by pressing Except now we don't
smithdown Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Well hard lines. Ask the coaches. Just don't lose this. Wounded animal and all that jazz.
D.Boon Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Swansea made them look ordinary with their big, powerful lad up front getting loads of joy........
Hassony Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Swansea made them look ordinary with their big, powerful lad up front getting loads of joy........Swansea have a better manager who knows how to use a big, powerful lad up front
Stanley Leisure Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Swansea have a better manager who knows how to use a big, powerful lad up frontIs he better or just at his level?
Hassony Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Is he better or just at his level?I think there are few managers in the premiership at the same level Pardew, monk, Hughes, pulis are all managers who are probably the same level as Rodgers (probably not Hughes tbf) I like Monk though, seems to be a good football thinker and unusualy honest for a manager
McBain Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I get Molby and Smithdown mixed up a lot. I don't wanna think about this game for a long while yet.
Cam Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I've wisely decided to be away for this oneSo that's me sortedAway too. Or rather just driving back oop north after being away. Might just pretend I'm still out of radio signal and 3G internet reach. FFS, thinking about it I may be home by halftime. Hoping for heavy roadworks.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) Going on what we have seen so far; UtdFull backs like to attackSchneiderlin + 1 other don't commit too often forwardSmalling and Blind are not a great partnershipAttack has not been very effective and can be smothered LiverpoolWe can choke a game ala Stoke and ArsenalMilner, Henderson and Lucas are 3 leaders in our teamBenteke can dominate center backs and retain long balls really well ApproachPut in a strong midfield trio to protect the defence but ensure we have players to support Benteke. In attack: Ibe + Lallana vs Firmino + Ings/Origi Go strong and tight in midfield but be ballsy in players that will given licence to support Benteke. Smalling and Blind wont rub him out of the game, so get people off him. Edited August 30, 2015 by Rory Fitzgerald

Hoping for heavy roadworks.I will be in Rome, where it all started So an Irish bar for me then either wild celebrations or a consolation pasta If it's a draw then risotto I get Molby and Smithdown mixed up a lot. I don't wanna think about this game for a long while yet.How so? Did you get Suarez and Sturridge mixed up?

DJS Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 4231 with protection for the back four and wide players who will get up & down and work hard. MignoletClyne Skrtel Sakho GomezHenderson LucasMilner Firmino MorenoBenteke Can instead of Henderson if the latter is still injured. Defend as a 5 when they're pushing forward, get Milner & Moreno high up the park when we're going forward, with Henderson/Can breaking as well to get numbers in advanced areas.
Hassony Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I'd start moreno at left back , he's showing good attitude after losing his place
Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I'd start moreno at left back , he's showing good attitude after losing his place I think Moreno will play a lot more games than Gomez this season and he could get the nod in this game. I have confidence for this one. Rodgers doesn't take too many backward steps and United haven't shown a great deal in attack. This could be a perfect game to be the away team. If play with the same concentration as at Arsenal and give licence to attack with strikers (not wide players) then we can trouble them. We can lose this one but if we do, it has to be unfortunate because we have the make up to get something there.......and I don't say that lightly because for years, we have been the underdog there.
DJS Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I'd start moreno at left back , he's showing good attitude after losing his placecant fault his attitude but he can't defend an argument. Much as its doom and gloom after Saturday and losing to the Mancs would be unthinkable, this will be a much different game. Mancs at home, won't park the bus like West Ham did, so we'll have much more space in their third and shouldn't struggle to break them down. Missing Coutinho won't help, mind.
CaptainXabi Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) I'd start moreno at left back , he's showing good attitude after losing his place I agree on Moreno's attitude, but we can't play Moreno and Lovren together. Lovren is already on the brink of a mental collapse and Moreno makes him skittish. I'd rather that not happen 15 minutes into the match at Old Trafford. Edited August 30, 2015 by CaptainXabi

Conrad Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Front 6, injuries permitting Lucas MIlner-Henderson Lallana (or Firmino) Benteke-Ings it's lacking pace and creativity, and will rely on the full backs providing width but it's about the best we can put out Edited August 31, 2015 by Heighway 61 Revisited
Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Front 6, injuries permitting Lucas MIlner-Henderson Lallana (or Firmino) Benteke-Ings it's lacking pace and creativity, and will rely on the full backs providing width but it's about the best we can put out Agree with that. One of Ings/Origi and perhaps one of Firmino/Lallana. I'd even be tempted to consider Ings and Origi as Origi can play right if Ings can do a shift left but give them loads of licence to get close to Benteke.
100LITes Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Benteke thigh injury ? This? Kristof Terreur @HLNinEngeland 2h2 hours ago Christian Benteke has a thigh strain. Nothing to worry about. Not sure he'll be fit for Bosnia, though
yellow jumper Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) i think in terms of width, in to out movement is more effective in unsettling defenders than straight lines or out to in anyway. certainly up the pitch. we talk about benteke needing runners beyond, but there's still the issue of dragging defenders out of shape when they're playing in a low block. one of the many things suarez was expert at was peeling out to the corners of penalty area or beyond. Dan Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 It'll be Henderson in for Coutinho and the rest as you were. Possibly Ibe for Can. Can't see BR changing the shape for this one - that normally only happens after one system has been flogged to death. TBF it worked very well against Arsenal away so I'm ok with that (Lovren's inclusion aside). It's the two home games after that where things have to change.
