I see he's much maligned, from some other threads.

I realise that his media presence doesn't do him any favours but was curious to know the genesis of the amount of criticism he draws.

For what it's worth, he is a club legend, and one of the defenders we've ever had.

Thoughts?

Torben Piechnik was one of the defenders we've ever had. So was Philipp Degen.

wonderful player

His partnership with Hansen was just brilliant.

Sorry for our younger fans who's only experience of him is his woeful punditry.

The greatest central defensive partnership Liverpool have ever had. lawrenson was magnificent.

Depends on your definition of legend.

Excellent player, part of the best CB partnership the club ever had and one of the top 5 defenders in the history of the club.

I choose to reserve the word legend for just 3-5 players though otherwise it's in danger of becoming diluted.

FFS don't get me started on those horrible "legend" games, Kvarme plays for christ sake!!

Seconded.

he is an odd one, sometimes on the radio he talks sense other times he is totally disinterested and phoning it in . On TV he is dire, and its made worse by his bizarre taste in shirts.

'can we just get on with the game now' was unforgiveable tbh.

For anybody in any doubt about just how good he was, watch the Roma match from 84. The football that we were playing around that time was as good as anything you will ever see and he was at the very heart of it. Oh yeah, and the Everton matches where he suddenly appear up front.

But, he's been a right dick basically since he left.

Great players don't always make good pundits. Look at Henry.

Can't stand him as co-commentator more to be honest. But then again, can't stand Owen either. Boring and complete dross.

That's powerful stuff. I doubt Lawrenson would ever read it unfortunately.

He should be forced to. Clockwork orange style.

As a player i'd put him second only to Dalglish
