baja the hut Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I see he's much maligned, from some other threads. I realise that his media presence doesn't do him any favours but was curious to know the genesis of the amount of criticism he draws. For what it's worth, he is a club legend, and one of the defenders we've ever had. Thoughts?

Cunny Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 wonderful playerHis partnership with Hansen was just brilliant. Sorry for our younger fans who's only experience of him is his woeful punditry.
Snookie Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 wonderful playerHis partnership with Hansen was just brilliant. Sorry for our younger fans who's only experience of him is his woeful punditry. The greatest central defensive partnership Liverpool have ever had. lawrenson was magnificent.

For what it's worth, he is a club legend, and one of the defenders we've ever had. Thoughts? Depends on your definition of legend. Excellent player, part of the best CB partnership the club ever had and one of the top 5 defenders in the history of the club. I choose to reserve the word legend for just 3-5 players though otherwise it's in danger of becoming diluted. FFS don't get me started on those horrible "legend" games, Kvarme plays for christ sake!!
Bogman Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 wonderful playerHis partnership with Hansen was just brilliant. Sorry for our younger fans who's only experience of him is his woeful punditry. Seconded.
baja the hut Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Torben Piechnik was one of the defenders we've ever had. So was Philipp Degen. So I missed best, sorry man.
muleskinner Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 he is an odd one, sometimes on the radio he talks sense other times he is totally disinterested and phoning it in . On TV he is dire, and its made worse by his bizarre taste in shirts.
Hobbsie Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I think he deserves some credit for his 'Oliver Kahn't' comment

DecidedByPoll Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 lawro's a c***. Kris Walsh on top form:http://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2011/09/an-open-letter-to-lawro/
Crazy Horse Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 He was one of my favourite players when he was in the team. As a pundit, not so much - I prefer to think of them as two different people.
Earl Hafler Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Yeah, that's one of the best football pieces I've read

pipnasty Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) For anybody in any doubt about just how good he was, watch the Roma match from 84. The football that we were playing around that time was as good as anything you will ever see and he was at the very heart of it. Oh yeah, and the Everton matches where he suddenly appear up front. But, he's been a right dick basically since he left. Edited August 26, 2015 by Pipnasty
DecidedByPoll Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I didn't know he said that.I was at that game so only found out later. Henry shushed the Kop too. Always thought he was better than that.
RafaShanks Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Great players don't always make good pundits. Look at Henry. Can't stand him as co-commentator more to be honest. But then again, can't stand Owen either. Boring and complete dross.
blago Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 lawro's a c***. Kris Walsh on top form:http://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2011/09/an-open-letter-to-lawro/That's powerful stuff. I doubt Lawrenson would ever read it unfortunately.
Stevie H Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 'can we just get on with the game now' was unforgiveable tbh. absolutely. magnificent player, seems a total and utter prick otherwise.
Maldini Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 To be honest I dislike the people inflicting him on us more than I dislike him. They must know by now that everyone hates him.
John am Rhein Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 That's powerful stuff. I doubt Lawrenson would ever read it unfortunately. He should be forced to. Clockwork orange style. For anybody in any doubt about just how good he was, watch the Roma match from 84.
