Excel Question

I have a Countifs function that is deriving a total based on a number of different criertia. It works. No problem. But....

 

One of the criteria that one of the counts is based on is a target date which is stored in a cell on one of the worksheets in the file.

 

At the moment the date in the Countifs is entered manually (kind of hard coded in to the Countifs)

 

I would like to improve it further by getting the countif function to check the data automatically something like this:

 

Dates in worksheet

 

14/09/2015

21/09/2015

28/09/2015

02/10/2015

 

But then the date in Countifs function should be working out "whichever of the dates in the worksheet date list is next to happen based on today's date"

 

I'm sure it can be done but I''m struggling to formulate the logic and work out how to embed it into the Countifs.
