Ok gang, if we look for a spot in the top 4, we need to find at least 70-75 points. We need to find approx 9-10 points every 5 games.

So first 5 games - where we getting our first 10?

Aug 9 Stoke (A) w

Aug 17 Bournemouth (H) w

Aug 24 Arsenal (A) L

Aug 29 West Ham (H) w

Sept 12 Man United (A) d

Both homes have to be won. Sunday should be if we are serious about challenging for the top 1, let alone 4. Away to Utd should / could be a point, Arsenal could be. It's possible to get 11. I think we'll get 8.

Aim as high as possible. Take it one game at a time. No one knows whether the requirement for fourth will be 70 points of 77 point at the moment. I suspect it will be higher than usual this year.

As Shankly said: Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor.

We should in no way aim to be forth.

Indeed. Nothing to fear in this league whatsoever.

I'd based my 9pts prediction on winning at Stoke and the 2 home games but losing at Arsenal & United.

It's only one game obviously but I thought the Mancs were so average today that, if Benteke hits the ground running for us, I'd fancy us to win there.

The Manc's have shown today and last season that they can be as s*** and average as they like but they always tend to have luck on their side... They were terrible up until the own goal.. Spurs just completely caved at that point

You can't just bemoan luck all the time, it's a lazy conclusion. If they're shyte, and they often are, the onus is on the opponents to take advantage of that. Spurs, being Spurs, didn't have the stomach for it after going behind.

We need to make sure we have it in us to capitalise if/when they play shyte against us.

It's incredible how 'lucky' the Mancs have been for 20-odd years, and how poor 'unlucky' Liverpool have been for a majority of the same era.

Aug 24 Arsenal (A) L

Need to have 100% home record to reduce pressure on aways for first part of season.

Southampton, Spurs, a***, Everton, Chelsea all dropped points this weekend

its one game, but it was a significant weekend for us. Arsenal and Chelsea had games they'd class as bankers. Everton too (if we care).

Ours was a game where the likeliest result was one in which we dropped points. Arsenal should have finished the weekend on 3, and us on 1. As it turned out its a 5 point swing in our favour. This will effectively manifest itself next weekend if Arsenal drop points at Palace (reasonably likely) whilst we beat Bournemouth (very likely).

3 of our next 4 are massively winnable. West Ham Norwich and Villa at home.

7 games in we should be looking at a minimum of 16 points.

By the time of the derby om 4th Oct we can be right up there
