downunder Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 On Sunday it's the Charity Shield, years ago it was a biggish game, good day out, big crowd etc. With all these high profile pre season tours by many big clubs, the game has been diluted. Could it be going back to where it was many years ago, where teams decide not to take part?
Cobs Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 don't remember anyone deciding not to take part but yeah, it's been destroyed used to be a proper game - though that was back when the FA Cup was a major thing to be winning too, right up there with winning the league Community Shield, my a*** too - what was the point of changing its name to that? Some FA PR d****ead came up with that over a £400 luncheon and justified their salary for another year
downunder Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 we chose not to play in 1973, I think there have been others around the same time.

So rather than make sure the money went to the right place they just changed the name
Cobs Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 right, well I'm calling the FA a bunch of c*nts over this regardless !
John am Rhein Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 traditional curtain raiser to the.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the death knell was when the renamed it the Care In The Community Shield (oddly appropriate, tbf)

One day we may even be able to look back on this Cobs and decide that it wasn't that important. Seems a long way off I know.
