Paisley Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Just wondering what the Jules Rimet trophy is doing in this photo? Was Bob part of the 1966 backroom staff? Or does it belong to Roger Hunt? http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/05/11/article-2323169-0006A09500000C1D-922_634x498.jpg
Murphman Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 He most definitely wasn't part of the England set up. I

Paisley Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks for the replies, that must be it Ali. Wonder why it's there amongst the other trophies he'd won though.
ali Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 FIFA present mini Jules Rimet trophies to clubs for example hosting World Cup matches and also to individuals for outstanding achievements. It was probably used for the 5 a side comps
Boca Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Wicked pair of socks Bob is sporting there. The whole outfit is great.
Mr S Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I thought that Jules Rimet trophy was nicked. Surely not, Bob......

Cam Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I was at the Bob Paisley tribute show in Southport last week. Was okay. Been on the lookout for a Gola t-shirt since.

New York Red Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Loved that man. Almost as much as Shanks. He was such a nice bloke and there was never any drama around him. Plus he really knew his stuff.
guernseygareth Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Bob is/was the man for me. Too young for Shanks's era but Bob always appeared to be a nice old fella that somehow managed to be the greatest coach in Europe in between enjoying a nice cup of tea and a chat. Always chuffed to get his visage via Panini.

Case Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Apart from one biography - from John Keith, I think (?), there's been nothing else decent written about him in long form that I can find. Cough, Revie, Ferguson ... loads. Not right, that.

On one level it isn't In another sense, it all just helps to set him apart from people like the three you mention, who are amongst the most vile indivdiuals to ever blight the game and the absolute antithesis of Bob.
Benzo-13 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Watched a bit of that Forest/Clough thing last night. He wrote the template for Mourinho behaviour.

The output does reflect his private, quiet personality. I remember him taking over as manager. I was 11 years old. Didn't realise then what a lucky kid I was going to be!
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 b******s to the honours system and b******s to biographies. He won s*** loads of silverware and that's all that matters.

Murphman Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Ironically I can't recall whether I've posted this before but my great aunt suffered from dementia and lived with her daughter's family (my cousin). She was a tremendous strain and they needed a break so my aunt went into the Bob Paisley Respite Suite in a hospital in Liverpool (not sure which one) Bob's widow had something to do with it's creation, apparently poor old Bob who had so many highs in his life couldn't remember any of it when he died.
John am Rhein Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 It's a scandal the lack of recognition he got. These days farting the national anthem gets you an obe.He got recognition from the people who matter, not the british state (which can f*ck off of course)
guernseygareth Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 apparently poor old Bob who had so many highs in his life couldn't remember any of it when he died. A cruel condition, my grandad-in law suffered it and literally disappeared before the family's eyes. The saving grace was that he was mostly happy before he finally passed. Hope the same was true for Bob.
