Gunga Din Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Lighten the mood a bit in here We've had our fair share of crap players down the years, but even amongst all the s***e performances they churn out, what are the stand out performances these players made in their Liverpool careers? I'll start the ball rolling Igor Biscan, away at Deportivo La Coruna in the groups stages of the 2005/05 Champins League season. We had a few injuries, but that night in Spain Igor played a blinder. ran the midfield, infact he was by a distance the best player on the park. What are the other greta performances by s*** players that made you think, "hang on, maybe this guy will be great after all"
Romario Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Bruno Cheyrou (the next Zidane!) I remember him in a pre season game v Milan (I think?) and he looked absolutely brilliant. Got dead excited that we had a brilliant player on our hands. I think he got injured and when he came back he was mostly crap bar a brilliant goal v Chelsea from a Heskey cross I think.

Earl Hafler Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 A Heskey cross to a Cheyrou goal - it's a thread winner.

Wasn't sure. I just remember thinking he looked class and was a great signing....What ever happened to Gregory Vignal? He looked like he could be our left back for 15 years and then.....Did he break his leg or something in a cup game?
fred Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Plessis against Arsenal, Le Tallec against Juve spring to mind.
Murphman Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Kvarme in his opening game, all kinds of stories coming out of Melwood that he could hurt a bag of cement in the tackle. Then Chelsea away when we let a 2-0 lead slip and he lplayed like a bag of cement that couldn't tackle anybody who had fully functioning legs.
Case Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) There's loads, though I don't like the 'crap/rubbish players' headline - Smicer and Biscan, for example, were far from being rubbish IMO'. Kozma was crap, Degen was crap - but neither had stand out matches that I can remember. How about Damien Plessis? - Made his debut in 2008 away against a great Arsenal side and played really, really well. Rafa (or 'Benitez' depending on your pov) described his performance afterwards as ... 'Today was the debut for Damien Plessis. We knew when we signed him that he was a quality player. He's played really well for the reserves, and to play as well as he did today in this stadium, it shows we are going in the right direction and in time he will be fighting with the likes of Gerrard and Spearing for a first team place.' He only played 3 more games for us before his shirt number was taken by future club legend Christian Poulsen and now plays in Lique 2 in France. Edit :- AH!! - Fred got there just before me! honourablegeorge Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Babel v Besiktas And Arsenal, and that goal against Derby. He had talent, he was just too feckless to use it. Heskey got a hat trick once, but he's still the player I dislike most out of everyone this century,Plessis is a good shout, he looked great., Was it disciplinary issues that took him out of the team? He never got another shot with us or anywhere else

Falconhoof Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) Le Tallec was fully committed for that one Champions League game at Anfield. Juve ? Edited June 11, 2015 by Falconhoof
Spike Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I think it was Josemi Vs Celtic in a preseason game in the states. He absolutely lumped this Celtic player in the air within the first few minutes and I thought we had a hard man, no nonsense defender on our books. Granted, more of a moment than a performance. The performance was on the podium in Istanbul
charlie clown Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I watched Djimi Traore in a reserves game at Knowsley Road a couple of years before he got into the first team and I went round telling any who would listen that I had seen the new Alan Hansen. He was absolutely fecn imperious that night. Oh dear.
cymrococh Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I saw Djimi in a pre-season game against Parma. He played left-back and spent the whole game bombing down the wing, going past Thuram for fun.
charlie clown Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Sad isn't it when people peek at 20. Downhill all the way after that.
honourablegeorge Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) That's a bizarre shout. I stand by it. Certainly far from the worst player, he had ability, there were games when he was unplayable, all that and more - but his attitude, his lack of interest in improving, him limping about pretending to be hurt after missing a sitter - I just couldn't like him. And granted, give me a specific example, like Heskey or Diouf or Heskey or Aquilani/whatever, it might not be him I'd pick - but he's always first in my mind when this sort of question comes up. I was so glad to see the back of him. Edited June 11, 2015 by honourablegeorge
Conrad Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Smicer vs MilanSmicer wasn't a rubbish player, he's nowhere near that category, although he generally disappointedI'm sure Salif Diao had a half decent game once, prob Leeds away, although that's prob only because I remember him scoring
