My day rubbing shoulders with players and goodbye to a Legend

I understand some people think the Palace match was s***e etc.... but I can only see it as the possibly the best day of my life..

We lost a legend but I gained some amazing memories with my lads..

Started on Wednesday when I got a text off Lucas telling me he had 2 tickets for the match today in their box.. asked if I wanted to take my youngest and join his family to watch the match... I of course said yes... He said that my youngest will be allowed to go on the pitch at the end of the match too... I have dreamed for years of seeing my kids on the Anfield pitch either as a player or even a mascot.. I couldn't believe the opportunity..

Anyway, my eldest was heart broken that he was missing out... I reminded him of all the away games and home games he has been to... but naturally he was gutted as he is 110% all about football

Anyway I arranged to meet Lucas' wife outside the Executive Entrance today...... As I was leaving Lucas texts me to say they have got an extra ticket! I told my eldest that he could come and he screamed the house down and legged it up to get changed....

Got to the ground and were met by Lucas' wife and taken up to their box.... Coutinho's family were in there as well as a table full of food and drink.... Have been to Anfield hundreds of times but never experienced this...

Anyway match kicks off and we al know the story there...

Gets to the 70th minute and Lucas' wife says she will take the kids down ready to go on the pitch.... My youngest gets scared and wants me to go so we all set off and get taken through to near the dressing rooms. The match is still going on... We go into a room where I see Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp.... I shake them both by the hand..... Its full of the families of all the players too. Mario then walks in and I say hi and chat to him for a minute...

Eventually we get led to the tunnel.... the match has just finished and the players walk down to get their kids.... I then turn and Gerard Houllier is walking through... I stop him and shake his hand and wish him all the best... was amazing to meet the great man to be honest.... He emerged through the Gucci and Armani WAGS like a vision.

Ayre was with him so I ignored that c***..

Anyway Lucas comes down and takes my kids down to the front.... we all then get led out to the pitch... I touch the sign on the way out...

I walk out to 45,000 fans..... most probably seen the attractive ladies come out one after another and then suddenly I pop out....

I stand there and then Stevie emerges... He gets interviewed right in front of me.... I then start getting texts saying 'is that you on telly?!?!'

I can't keep a straight face as my youngest is running around shouting toward me.... My eldest is stood in disbelief.....

They then start on the walk around the pitch... my kids are with Lucas and running about all over... I look on with pride... I am stood next to Gerard Houllier for a bit and asked if he was in good health.... such an amazing man..

The players then come back round to us.. I catch eye contact with Stevie and I go over and shake his hand and thank him for everything ... he says its a pleasure and not a problem and thanked me.... we hugged and he then went off for pics..... I hung on as I knew it would be my last chance for a pic with him.... He had his pics with the other players and then came back over and smiled and said 'is this your lad? does he want a pic?' and so I passed my phone to the club photographer and we got our pic with him....

was incredible...

We then played football on the pitch for a bit between the kids... then went back in to wait for the players to get dressed

They start filtering in so I lifted my youngest up and got some signatures on the back. I chatted to Ibe and Moreno and Coutinho.... Coutinho remembered my name from the party the other week... We walked across the pitch to the car park and chatted ... Were clearly gutted about the result but it became insignificant bearing in mind the occasion..

Said goodbyes on the car park near the gates... Meeting up in a few weeks.. I tried to find out if Lucas plans to stay and the best I could get was that they have their daughter registered for the nursery .... which means nothing following the Suarez story last season....

Sorry if this is long winded but I am sure some will enjoy the read...

Heres some pics

That's top that is Barnsey. Can't say much for your shoes mind...

Who's that on crutches next to Moreno who clearly doesn't have a missus?

Haha I had Sambas on and realised I might get turned away so dug out the only non trainer shoes I could find...

That's Teixeira..... He has a bird and she's great

Living the dream.....thanks for sharing.

I came over from the US with my son last year. Did the tour and met Alan Kennedy in the lounge and I'm still buzzing over all that so can only imagine how you feel.

It may be the greatest thing any fan has done ever. To have his kids invited on to the pitch for a lap of honour is one thing but for Steven Gerrard's farewell, wow ... then to get on himself! And get a hug from the legend. Live on television.

Certainly beats Karl Power.

Amazing that Barnsey! I think my kids went to that nursery too, bloody wish we hadn't moved away - I'd be trying to get in on the action haha I do most of the kids parties duties!

Fantastic stuff.

Jammy bastid! George once announced Bootser Jnrs name at a game we got over to. He was made up, so I imagine your lads will remember that for all their days.
