So, I bought a second hand car, was a complete disaster, had to get rid of it, managed to px it with a local dealer, ending up paying out £3,300 on a 10 year old VW Golf, which was a bit ott but never mind

got a 3 month warranty on the Golf. But I have already had issues with it, and now it seems every time I actually drive it any distance at all, the engine management light comes on. so I am taking it back into a garage under warranty. (rac think its a nox sensor issue)

My question is - and advice much appreciated - I am near the end of my 3 month warranty. there is every chance the garage will 'fix' the problem, and clear the warning light, only for it to return as soon as I am out of warranty.

If a sensor needs replacing it could cost a lot.

Can I go back to the dealers and say - this car keeps having problems, its not fit for purpose, I want my money back? Surely there comes a point when it becomes clear you have been sold something that doesn't do what its supposed. I know its second hand but the point of going to a dealer rather than private is to get some form of comeback if things go wrong. it is a business-consumer transaction

Or, could I ask to them to extend the warranty to see if the fault is cleared properly?

Anything I can do?
