I'm not sure but I think an old debt might have caught up with me. I got a call at work from a friend I've never heard of and they left a number that didn't work. It might have been taken down wrong, but still it feels like someone was fishing. I told a friend at work and he asked if my employer was on LinkedIn. It was, thought not now.

If it is a debt, it's from eleven or twelve years ago. I've not had any contact since then. I want to do a credit check on myself, but I don't seem to be able to as I don't have a UK address or bank account.

I regret not sorting this out years ago, maybe by declaring myself bankrupt before I left the UK, and this couldn't have come at a worse time. My girlfriend's dad was about to lend us money to help us buy a house, but now, understandably, he doesn't want to lend me money, so if we buy, it'll be in my girlfriend's name only.

My life was a mess twelve years ago, but it's not now. Problem is that now I've got my own family so the consequences of this don't just affect me. If I can do a credit check, I can find out who might be after me and if they have a County Court Judgement against me, I can work out what to do next.

Can I authorise someone else to do a check for me and how would they do it if my last address was a decade ago?
