Kite Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 A download for a concert he did in Israel in 1972 has been around since 2010 or so but I just came across it and thought I'd draw your attention to it, in case you missed it, if you're a fan, or interested in, LCohen. On the first hand the quality is excellent, on the second, it ends in a riot!! (There was a riot at a Leonard Cohen gig, how depressing is that!?) But what I find particularly of interest, and what I wanted to share, is the version of Chelsea Hotel that happens here. There's a very nice "Sisters of Mercy" and a fair "Avalanche" but Chelsea Hotel is the one that's of special interest in that it's in the middle of being written and is a bit all over the place, but it's notably heart felt, and honest (and just in case you're interested, and don't know, it's about Janis Joplin). Whereas the final recorded version is that more typical, clever, Cohen song - tight, but touching in its own way - here he just sings, up and down, and around the place, singing lines like: "You got away, they can't pay you now, for making your sweet little sound, I'm so tired, making your sweet little sound, I'm thinking of you baby, making your sweet little sound, did it happen baby ... " and on, in a surprisingly, unguarded, honest way ... http://www.mediafire.com/download/i0bpb6c9c5jaib3/LEONARD+COHEN+%281972%29+Live+in+Israel.zip (Note, it took f***ing ages to download for me though)
