baja the hut Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I think we are moving with FSG to a more of a pay cap structure. Is that the case? If so what are the implications of that? Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling are both stalling their negotiations. Will this mean that we will constantly be a club who develops players young for them to go somewhere else for a big pay day?Does this endanger any hopes of a legacy and turn us into what Arsenal have become, a well run club that hardly wins anything?
Falconhoof Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 What is a pay cap structure ?Our wage bill is quite high, but sustainable and we are signing the younger ambitious players which should help to keep the wages more manageable.
baja the hut Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 A pay cap is a salary above which no one can go.A ceiling.
Billy Dane Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 No bad thing IMO, although if they gave Suarez a deal worth 200K a week I think the pay ceiling gives them plenty of room for manoeuvre.
The_Adder Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Performance related pay aint it? Win loads, get paid loads. Great in theory if it means we can both keep hold of our players and still attract the quality we need, if we can't then it then becomes a major issue, hopefully it will be the former.
Falconhoof Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I don't think they have set a figure. Its too restrictive and would mean that if we developed, let's say Coutinho, to be the worlds best player and he wanted to stay with us, we wouldn't be able to pay what he is worth to keep him. The phrase 'moving towards a pay cap' is the key here. If they are moving towards then there isn't one currently. If there isn't one then its probably not something they will do. There has been nothing to stop them doing that before now.

Ombudsam Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Pay everyone as little as possible that will keep them at maximum effectiveness.
New York Red Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 My guess is that they have a percentage of annual income set aside for salaries. A large one. No individual limits but definitely a squad limit. Certain annual fixed costs to be taken out of that initial sum obviously, as well as operational expenses and salaries. A net transfer spend is probably an annually revised figure too, dictated by what the market is doing.
